Most jurisdictions would require that the police vehicles speedometer have current calibration certification to be authorized for this purpose.

Dunno about US regs in this, but on EC P-spec the instruments must then have a (white) sticker on, showing [calibration: institution/date/person responsible | next calibration due: date]

The 4 DCT equipped Hondas I’ve owned had very accurate speedometers, within 1 mph at 60 mph. The other Hondas not so much.
