power outlet question. My 2010 ST (bought used) has a power outlet inside the right fairing pocket. however trying a few different cords (and checking the cords in other outlets to make sure they work) I get no power. My owners manual and my Honda shop manual shows nothing. even the wiring diagram shows nothing. One thing is its located down at the bottom of the pocket which makes it hard to get at with the cord. since I have had no luck with my manuals my question is is this a Honda install or someones aftermarket install.

thanks

Aftermarket. You'll need to visually trace the added wiring, unless you can find a blown fuse, either factory or added.

The power socket on my '01 1100 is in the left pocket, wired from the factory accessory fuse, next to the fuse block.

To further confuse the issue, those are often wired with an auxiliary harness sold by Honda, called a quartet harness. As Larry says above, the fuse is next to the fuse box. Most of the time, those outlets are in the LEFT glovebox, though, since the connector for the quartet harness is on that side.

There was a 12V socket that was a Honda factory accessory that contained a fuse in the B+ lead. In any event the culprit is likely a blown fuse. You might check the battery and fuse block (under the right/STBD side cover) for external connections. If you don't see anything there then you'll have to trace the wiring from the outlet to wherever.

I installed one Powelet myself, before buying the quartet harness, so for now it goes straight to battery.
IF it is an official Powerlet device, there will be an inline fuse.
I suggest you look there first, then continue as necessary, following that wire.

thanks for the info. I will go out and check fuse locations and see if any are blown

Not a fuse or wires on the battery. looks like if I want to fix this my next step is to remove the right side and start the trace. thanks again to all for the ideas and what to check.

You do know you're about 30 minutes from Igofar I think? (If the cities listed in your profiles are correct and he hasn't moved yet...)

You might be surprised what else he can discover about your bike if you let him whisper it.. :)

Just an FYI - Powerlet type sockets are actually referred to, in other parts of the world, as Hella type connections and they are readily available on eBay and Amazon.

From time to time, you can also find them at John Deere dealers as they are (at least used to be) used on their implements.

IIRC, though the quartet harness on the 1300 is installed on the left/port side under the upper cowl, the OEM accessory outlet which plugs into it is installed in the right/starboard (unlocked) pocket.

I wasn't pleased to find that Honda swapped the locked/unlocked pocket assignments when they designed the 1300. I suspect too many 1100 riders were accessing the unlocked left pocket while in motion and some lawyer-type advised them to make that the locked one on the 1300.

Me neither. I was one of those offenders who used it while in motion for things like putting sun glasses away, getting a candy/gum, etc.. Now I have to stop for that chicken-shXX stuff.

I didn't "graduate" from the 1100, but went right to the 1300, so I never had the common, joyful experience of left-pocket access while underway.
However, in my world, I found it curious and oddly annoying that the locked pocket was under my "free hand", inaccessible without a key and / or pulling over to avail myself of its contents. So whatever goodies I hid in those small, handy little bins I needed as I rolled along, were basically unreachable without a throttle lock or cruise control.
And in the months I've been hanging out around this cozy little digital campfire, I've never noticed any others lamenting Honda's choice of left and right in this instance. So thanks for the affirmation.
Truly my greatest peeve and disappointment in this model motorbike, which tells us if this is my biggest complaint -- then Soichiro and team did a remarkable job designing a purposeful, comfortable and capable machine; at least for my purposes.
Of course, the ingenious ST community has rallied and come up with at least a couple of widely-available workarounds for this unconscionable oversight, if it truly bothered me that much. :)
EDIT: and I do wholeheartedly concur with @STRider and his assessment that some dastardly lawyers were, in all probability, at the heart of this deplorable decision.

I wonder if the OP has a standard 12V cigarette lighter type power outlet and not a powerlet® outlet. The powerlet® outlets are officially DIN outlets but also known as BMW/Bosch in addition to Hella.

And I have been to see IGOFAR and did a ton of things to my bike. one was to remove the right side cover to get to the radiator. I do not remember unplugging any wires as we had removed the pockets from both sides. I'll have to get off my duff and get it fixed.

just to end the story. I just returned from a test ride with a working 12 volt outlet/ hella connection. took the right side off and found it was just unwired. plugged two wires in and that was that.
