Yes, another oil question. Did not find any Thread about 15w50 oil.

Previous owner put a very good brand 15w50 full synthetic oil in my st1300.
Just a week before i bought it.
It sounds very good, drives good, but this oil is a little bit thicker than the w40.

Now i drive with passenger and trailer thru Germany.
That demands more from the engine.

What do you think about this?
Should I change the oil or not?

I have used 15w50 without any problems.

Ive used it on prolonged trips in the heat, otherwise temps below 80 degrees f. Stick with 10-40 full symthetic

I put 10w-30 as a trial once in ST1300A6 - as it fell within the range for our rather cool climate. The diagram in the handbook for the UK model is differents from that in the USA handbook. The 10w-30 was fine at home - but it was still in when we went touring in Europe and it turned out to be far too thin. I don't know what it was - but it sounded to be not very well lubricated in that the engine noise wasn't being cushioned by a nice layer of oil. I few times I stopped near the top of a pass just to let it cool down. The temperatures were way beyond what we normally see in the UK. Next time we went, I always made sure I had new 10w40 in it. I'm sure slightly thicker would have been better - but probably not for riding back home.

" sounds very good, runs good"

Run it like it is.

When it's time to do an oil change put whatever you want in it, it's your bike now.

It's not thicker....Multi-weight (or multigrade) oil is designed to flow easily during cold starts and thicken as the engine heats up, providing year-round protection. Designated by two numbers (e.g., 5W-30), the first ("5W") indicates winter flowability, while the second ("30") represents viscosity at high temperatures, allowing one oil to operate efficiently from cold startup to high operating temperatures.
