1991 VRR heat related question.

I just assisted in a 28 amp alternator from a wrecked ST1100 to one that needed one. Same rider owns both bikes.

Repaired the wires and melted connector from the failed unit with the good VRR and connector.

Question is about the heat level of the replacement VRR. Is it normal for the thing to get really hot to touch??

It's using the left footrest plate as heat-sink...
So I even made it a routine to apply CPU cooler paste on the backside...
I'd still checking stator windig resistance and output...
VRR and alt are prone to take each other out (cascading failure)...
