Does anyone know the paint code for a 2006 ST1300....Yes I know its on a label under the seat and the color I believe is pearl black but I am trying to avoid paying Honda an outrageous amount for paint so I would need a cross reference for PPG paint...Thanks in advance...Bill

Bill, both your posts showed up good over here.

I've got an 06 as well that I'm restoring that's in need of some paint. Could you let me know if you find a match that works. I bought some paint for a '10 F150 that appears like a match, but I'm reluctant to try it because too often what appears good in a match isn't a match in the real world.

One would think black is black but it isn't. I'd make a call or trip to my local automotive paint supply store. Typically DuPont, Ditzler, PPG ,etc. have an application lookup and a chip chart to go with it. Tell them the year and model and they can do the lookup for you.

If you take the Honda color code to a paint shop they would be able to tell you want the equivalent PPG code is. If not a code, they would have a mix formula to match the factory paint.

I went the PPG route to match my Honda paint, at first, it was way off. As the paint ages, it is getting closer to the Honda color. As always YMMV...

By any chance was it one of the reds or silvers?

R157 Italian Red. In 2002, you could have your VFR in any color your wanted, as long as it was red.

Red is one of those colors that will fade over time and exposure to the sun. Your newer paint would have matched a new bike perfectly, or at least as close as possible, but not your older paint. Once it had time to age and fade it got closer to your older paint. Silvers will do the same thing. Actually all the colors will but I think it is the reds and silvers that show it most.

Quality of paint will also make a difference. I had some paint and body work done on a red Camaro years ago. The shop that did the work told me ahead of time that the paint they used was better than factory and would hold its' shine longer. When I first got the car back it was perfect and you couldn't tell what had or had not been painted. Years later the repaired area was still shining while the rest of the car was beginning to dull.

Harley's "vivid-black" in a rattle can has produced one of the nicest finishes I've ever gotten from a can ... and proved to hold up well (could polish out scuffs easily). Matched my bike perfectly. I used it on a red Corbin Smuggler back when my 2006 was black (it's white now).
