3D scan of the ST1100 windshield wanted

Does anyone happen to have a 3D scan of the lower part of an ST1100 windshield? I want to raise it by about 2.5 cm and had an idea to 3D-print a sort of spacer for the standard screen...
Promise to share 3d model to everyone who wants to try

A screen spacer sounds like an interesting concept. I'm not sure but I think the windshield is conical but you may be able to move it up 2.5 cm If you were in the U.S., I would give you an old stock screen but shipping it to you would probably very expensive.

Do you know or have access to a sheet metal shop? A company, Madstad, made a sheet metal piece that replace the lower part of windshield. Adjustable brackets were made to attach windshield to the the metal plate. But they are out of business now.

Thanks! I'm not in the US, so shipping wouldn't really be feasible.
That was actually my first idea- to make an adapter plate from an aluminum sheet, shaped like the lower part of the windscreen, and mount the screen to it. Then I thought maybe it's time to apply some new technologies to the poor old ST )

That's exactly what the MadStad unit did - I worked directly with them to make it happen.
I have the original stored in Uncle Phil's Parts Department.
They preferred to make the base out of metal to ensure strength and stability.
It would be an easy starting place for an electrical windshield for a ST1100.
I have also talked with ClearView Windshields about making a base for the ST1100 and they were open to the idea at the time.

Yep, I was thinking about making an electric windshield adjuster. All that's needed is a pair of linear rails and a linear actuator. If only I had a shed with tools... Screenshot 2026-07-05 222423.png


I scanned the windshield mounting surface today with a phone app. Now I just need to learn how to turn the OBJ file into a 3D model of the adapter.

I don't know what the Honda engineers had in mind, but the windshield isn't mounted directly to the subframe. Instead, it's attached only to the plastic fairing panels. In my opinion, that compromises its rigidity. If you apply any force to it, the whole dashboard/fairing assembly flexes. It's especially noticeable when you're riding on the highway at high speed and pass an oncoming truck.
 
Interesting project. What 3D scanning app are you using? iphone or android? I'd love to get some successful 3d scans without having to buy a scanner.

That's per design to eliminate the guillotine-effect in case of getting thrown forward and right on/into the screen while hitting something...
That edging/piping strip is "dulling" the thin top edge of the polycarbonate for the very same reason...
So before suffering cuts on throat or face (i.e. open visor) probably better the screen just pulls those well-nuts out and flies off...

Also the mounts of the ST1300 (or NT700) screen have sacrificial rubber elements embedded, allowing the screen to be torn away during a crash...

I hadn’t thought about it that way. I was wondering why those rubber inserts are used where the screen bolts go, maybe to absorb vibration and prevent stress cracks in the polycarbonate...

While it is raining it also does an amazing job at redirecting the water flowing up the windshield to the sides away from flying in to the riders face.
 
I just started to try to figure out how to create 3d model. Found Polycam app for android. Exported 3d scan to obj file. Before that I used only Tinkercad...


I want it about 2.5 cm up and 1.5 cm away from fairing, something like that

There are online converters for obj file format to stp (STEP) file format. STEP is an ISO standard and can be read into almost any CAD system
 
How about some pieces of wood to space it out and up. Cheap and easy. How fast and far are you going to ride? If you want to fill the gap at the bottom of thee windshield, duct tape, gaff tape or painters tape. I don't know what's available there.

I’m going to print two or three versions of the spacer with different heights, and then choose the one that fits best. I want to keep the look of the ST as authentic as possible.
