95 ST1100 timing issue

After watching the video and listening to your comments, painful.....Your over your head. You already ignored the cam timing mark post which is the fix. Cams can not be put in anyway . Who cares if its exhaust or intake phase. Take the cams out, . , put belt on, find the timing marks on the camshaft install cams with the index marks aligned like the picture.

After watching bits of that video, i can concur with others, get a manual and follow it... Problem solved. I would add... Get rid of that Dawn detergent. You realize that you are spraying oil and grease remover on parts that rely on oil, right?
Ok how about this, anyone gotta photo of cams and lobes when engine is at top dead center, and once everything is set I apply proper oil I just don't think anyone here it totally mechanically inclined cause it's really not that difficult for someone it figure it out just need a reference

It don't work, process of elimination, gotta time out the cam lobes by eye. "In over your head" it's not that difficult who has a photo of the cam lobes with engine at top dead center?

... And yet there is only one person here that is stumped
Not at all I'm attempting to troubleshoot all I'm getting here is follow the manual and in this case the manual is not of much use, need photo of cam lobes I think I got some though only for right side

N.B. note the difference between ‘punch marks’ and ‘index lines’ on the ends of the cams. [forgive me, I don’t know who’s image this is for attribution (Doug W.?)]

poor choice of words on my part,, pic shows punch and index marks :doh1: Never had my cams out, if I had to remove them I would verify all the marks first.

I had to use the punch marks I STILL DONT KNOW WHY, it could only be one of two things, the cams came from different model bike though similar enough to function (which still makes no sense cause the punch marks fit the intake and outtake phases of compression strokes), or something with the crank shaft even though it's at top dead center and aligned perfectly with T1 and punch mark?! Makes me question what's going on with the gears I guess but it works! So just gotta get the wiring working there is two issues with that involving the useless safety features and a short coming from the handle bar switches, I can't bypass very much on this thing so..... It just makes no sense but it matches what should be happening and am excited to try and get it running tomorrow for damn sure.
This bike HAS been rebuilt or worked on at some point as to why I'm seeing some gasket maker on the top end so rolling those dice still, got the compression tester here on Monday...follow me on Instagram at _psychonaut_ace_ if wanna check out progress of this build over the next few weeks as to not keep flooding the forums, for now anyway!

Who got photos of cam lobes ?!

Well… the schematic from the Honda Service Manual posted above shows them pretty well, and the image I posted, but here’s a nice ST1100 valve clearance worksheet that should help [http://www.st-riders.net/index.php?topic=4727 / also somewhere’s on this site unless it was lost in the recent site kerfuffle]:

Problem solved everyone thanks very much to all !

So… what exactly was the problem and what advice did you receive here that solved the problem for you? You owe all of us that tried to help the answers to these questions. Seriously.

Regards, John
