About the Roady XT

I recived it yesterday. It seems so small. Just wondered if other members have this unit and if you are pleased w/ it and if its easy to operate while riding. I ordered installation STuff from Cyclegadgets.

I have this unit and have been using it in my car since Christmas. I like it a lot! I just ordered a hard wire kit and a flush mount bracket from XMfan.com and a "Roady holder" from Cyclegadgets. I previously ordered the 4' antenna from XMFan.com. I think I'm just about all set to do the installation on the ST. I would like to buy another XT cradle but they do not seem to be available outside of the car or home kits. Anyone have a source?

Jeff,

I would give XMfanstore a call and see if they have XT car kits in yet. They have everthing XM!

They have the car kits but that includes the cradle, cigarette lighter adapter and the antenna. I don't need all that other stuff, just want the cradle. They have individual cradles for the SkiFi, but not for the XT :(

They don't have them here, either, but MyRadioStore is another place to keep an eye on. This guy used to be partners with the XMFanStore guy, but they split and now compete. I usually check both places for stuff.

Thanks Steve, I've been to both sites, didn't know about the previous relationship. The story I'm getting is that Delphi hasn't made the cradles available separately as a replacement part - yet. Everyone thinks they soon will, but I'm ready now and no one can get them! I've got a friend who works for GM that I'm trying for an inside job too.

After speaking w/ Dan (Snowmoer) & Marshall Mercer, I've decided this unit is too small for me. I'm having difficulty seeing it or touching buttons w/ gloves. I should get the SkYFI. Therefore, I will be returning the XT to Amazon.com and exchanging it for a Sky Fi!. If someone needs to purchase a brand new XT PM me..selling for $50.

Over the last couple of years, I've resisted the urge to subscribe to pay-to-hear radio. That being said, my younger brother works for Delphi, LOVES his Roady and satelite radio, and can get me hardware dirt cheap. It just seems to me that it's like regular radio or cable TV; after a while it's recurring programming and/or "57 channels (and nothing's on)". However, it seems like the more I age, the more I dislike my local radio programming. Sell me (?)

lol...I got hooked on XM...Its just great...there is so much variety. I prefer XM over Sirius personally. Most people that like H. Stern will go to Sirius. I'm staying w/ XM. Its great being able to switch from CNN to Comedy -To Clasic Rock- To Classical -To Nascar- To BBC, etc...........

I just modified my XM Roady XT power plug to hardwire it. I had already added a termianl strip fed by filtered power (I had alternator whine when plugged straight into my cigarette lighter plug). See picts below. It took me about 20 mins. If you have any questions give me a shout.

Nice, do u have difficulty operating the Roady XT w/ gloves? I have a problem seeing it and the name of a song for instance..

Actually I have the remote on my tankbag and that can be operated pretty easily with gloves. I'll be mounting the XT on my dash-shelf. With LCD's you do have a limited sight angle and have to adjust the display so you can view it better.

Something I'm debating internally as well. I did call XM customer service (twice to confirm this) and asked if I could be a "seasonal customer" and activate service every April 1st and end October 31st, without paying annual activation charges. They said yes (I would need to pay initial activation) but I would need to do this by phone. That cuts the annual cost almost in half & gives me tunes and baseball (Go Brewers) on the bike. Sold?
