Aerostich VS Olympia Moto Sports

Karl

I am thinking of buying an Aerostich Roadcrafter one piece suit, but I have read some good things about Olympia Moto Sports Phantom One Piece Suit.

Does anyone have any experience with these two suits? Pros and Cons of each etc. etc.

I like the styling of the Phantom better and the fact that it comes with a liner for colder weather. My concern is how it will hold up over time and whether the crash protection is as good as the Roadcrafter. I commute 100 miles every day in the St. Louis Metropolitan area so I need something that will give good all weather protection.

The Phantom is considerably cheaper and I have read some good reviews on it, however it has not been around that long and the Roadcrafter has stood the test of time.

Can anyone help get me off the fence?

Got a one piece RC last winter and so far, its the best riding clothes I've owned. I have the one piece suit and worth every dollar I paid for it.

It may seem to be an odd consideration for those of us riding imported motorcycles, but the Aerostitch is domestically produced.

Having owned and used other riding gear, I can comfortably say this is a case of getting what you pay for. The Roadcrafters are unsurpassed in construction quality and protection. They are incredibly well thought out.

Then I guess the question would be, do you have body armor in the suit? I use the Darien jacket with armor and it is a tight fit into just one saddlebag, I put the Darien pants (with armor) into the other saddlebag. I'm doubtful that if I had a one piece suit, I would be able to 'roll' them up and fit into one bag.

I have the one piece RC. It is a great piece of gear for protection. My only slightly negative comments are that it is leaks a little, and I need to get velcro added all the way down the front instead of interrupted as comes from the factory. Also, since it is made for a wide range of temps, it is just not as warm in winter as my Firstgear HT overpants (wearing the same gear under both--silk long johns and fleece pants). I find it OK from about 45 to 85 degrees. Below 45, I'll go with the HT pants and Olympia AST jacket. Above 85, I use Firstgear air mesh pants and Olympia airglide jacket.

If I had it to do again, I'd get the 2 piece just for more options and maybe less leaks in heavy rain. I can't comment on the one piece Olympia.

I'm able to fit a 2-piece Roadcrafter with full armor and back protector in a saddlebag.

Your build may also dictate on which suit, or combination thereof, you purchase. Because I used to be in pretty good shape, my 46" chest combined with a 31" waist precluded me from getting a two-piece Aerostich--they don't make mens pants smaller than a 34" waist.

I do like my Aerostitch one piece, but it does stay home pretty much during the entire summer--it's just too hot when it's above 80-85 degrees. During the winter, however, I feel very secure while wearing it.

I decided to buy my Aerostitch after a good friend crashed his FJR1300 bad enough to total the bike, and break one of his arms--his Aerostitch saved him from any road rash, and he still wears the same suit, which only shows very minor battle scars where he slid on the asphalt.

The new Olympia gear is catching my eye however...hence, my reading this thread...

I have both. Roadcrafter (2 piece)and Darien (jacket and pants) from Aerostich.
I don't have the Olympia. But I have looked at it.
If you are looking for a suit to last ten plus years then I guess there is no other with a track record like the Roadcrafter. But if you like to be in style with a different suit in 3 years Maybe look at the Olympia And save some money for the next suit.
The Olympia looks nice and seems to be a good value. But I do think you will get what you pay for. Though the Olympia is a low price one piece there are no options to have it customized to you exact needs. So if the elbow pads and knee pads are in the correct while seated on your bike and there is no tight spots around your upper arms when you extended your arms to grab hold of the handle bars. Then it might be a good deal. But very few off the shelf one piece suits fit all riders.
The roadcrafter is a full custom suit it is a bit warmer than a some of the full mesh jackets out there. But I am very comfortable up to 87 degrees and high humidity. Above that it does get a bit warm. ( I have used it to over 98 degrees with no real discomfort) And while I do dress in layers for cold weather riding I am comfortable to the upper 20s before I will add Electrics.
If you have any other questions PM me

Thanks to everyone for your help. I think I'll go with the Roadcrafter. Now I just have to decide on color.

This may sound stupid but this topic was not in the sub catogories, I had to check out the main section to see this. Is there any way to post up another thread/subcatogory here somehow in the clothing section specifically about jackets/suits?

If anyone is interested, I have listed a couple of the Olympia suits in the for sale section.

Thank you

I have the Black 2 piece Road crafter and love it!!! I went round and round with what color to buy and when I calleed Aerostitch they said the Red fades the worst and the Blue is second. So I the Yellow has the least amount of fading and the black the second least. I won't be able to afford to replace this anytime soon so I went with the black. I also bought the Gerbings jacket liner and gloves and what a perfect match!!!! I hate bulking up to ride in the cold so now I don't have to!!!!!! Good luck. Order early before the riding season and be prepared to send the suit back for a perfect fit.

mesh melting on sliding?

I can offer up that my Olympia Airglide has been crashed repeatedly, and no sign of fray, wear, etc. It's about 2 years old.

Hi Brad,
Is your jacket the mesh? If so, how did the mesh handle your sliding on the ground? Thanks.

I would agree with a little exception. I have the one piece RC. It is designed as a more all around riding suit so it is not as warm as some of my other gear in winter without a bit more layering even with electric jacket liner. The other thing that still bothers me is that it still leaks in the crotch when in heavy rain, and I don't like to have to stop and put on rain gear under what should be waterproof. If I had to do it again, I'd get the 2 piece just since it should be more resistant to leaks (that long zipper is the reason I'm sure.).
