Jackets Aerostitch Darien Jacket Problem

I bought an Aerostitch Darien jacket and pants before I came to Italy. At the time I bought them they were out of back armor, both regular and competition. Looking at both styles of back armor the competition back armor looked like it would afford more protection in an accident so I ordered a large one. My jacket size is a 48.

The back armor has come in and I am having a problem. With nothing on the seat behind me, so nothing to get in the way, the back armor is riding up and hitting me in the bottom of the back of helmet. This is driving my helmet up, forcing my chin to my chest. I have tried everything to fix this and nothing has worked. Riding in Italy is dangerous enough without the added complexity of not being able to see or move your head!! Frankly I scared the hell out of myself trying different things to fix this problem while riding. I do not like to ride without back armor in my jacket, but it is just not safe to ride with it in!!

Does anyone have the medium or small competion back armor? If so, is the length of the medium or small back armor a lot shorter than the large? The large back armor goes from my shoulder blades to the middle of the pockets on my pants.

Does anyone have the regular back armor? Any issues?

Aerostitch has said I can exchange or return it. I just don't want to have to exchange it two or three times!!

Does the jacket zip into your riding pants? If so, would zipping it to them help move it down at all?
 
I figured that was a long shot. Oh well...Hope all is well other than the issues with the jacket. You'd think being in Italy you'd have Italian Racing shop owners on every corner. LOL I guess that's not the case.
 
Wow! More expensive than over here? That's a shocker. Isn't our dollar still worth more than their currency?
 
JD- I had the same problem with my back protector (Non-competition model). I found that the lip on the rear edge of the driver's seat was pushing it up. I have a Sargent seat but I think the OE seat would do the same thing. I obviously sit all the way back on the seat for this to happen. Anyway, I fixed the problem by removing the foam insert from its nylon shell and cutting off about 2" from both the top and bottom. Remember, this is on the "standard" back pad - the "competition" pad looks more complicated.

The other thing I don't like about the back pad is that it blocks off a good part of the back vent. Don't know how to fix that except to take it out in the hot weather.

The exchange rate right now is $1.45 U.S.D. to 1 Euro. That is down from a high of $1.68 U.S.D. to 1 Euro. That small change, changes my rent by nearly $400 dollars.

I thought about trimming it down a bit. Before I do that, I will exchange it for a smaller size and try that. I have thought about perforating it to help some air move through it. Again, I will wait until I figure out the size thing.
