A Bit Of History -
West Jefferson, Alabama, is a small town in Jefferson County that developed in the 1880s from a farming community into a mining hub driven by the Birmingham steel industry. Incorporated in October 1964, the town was named after the 1926 West Jefferson High School, which now serves as the town hall, and is home to the Alabama Power Miller Steam Plant.
