Am I being realistic?

Pick your pleasure or poison. You can commute on any bike just as easily as you can in any car truck or SUV. Why people use $90,000. SUVs that get poor mileage and are tough to park to commute in and out of downtown is beyond me. It must be important at some level to them. I commuted in and out of Boston daily in the '70s on a '74 CB750 Four. It's what I owned and was more convenient than the bus or the T. I suppose if I owned a bigger or smaller bike back then that would have been my choice too. We seem to be forgetting that at the end of the day motorcycles were intended as economical transportation. Plenty of arguments for and against using an ST1100 but for the price it is very reliable transportation. Very cost effective too.

I still remember when a 650 was considered a "BIG" bike and what would anyone need something bigger for. That 700 has everything to be proud of. I don't think any comment was meant to lower rate the bike intentionally, probably just popped into mind
If it has 2 wheels it works, It is all the same wind. Besides..... it sold and is on the street, what is wrong with that

:unsure-2x: humiliating???

I'm missing what is humiliating about the NT700VA. I actually had a BMW owner come up to me at Mt. St. Helens to ask what BMW model it was. Full fairing. Excellent wind management. Comfortable riding position. Shaft drive. Built in luggage with a pass-through.

I love this bike

Picked up a 2001 ST1100 with 85000 miles, regular maintenance always performed, runs great. I am planning on using it as a commuter, with regular service can I hope to use this bike for a while, or will it be a money pit? I can turn a wrench, but am seeing some parts might be hard to find. Thanks
Good choice for a daily ride to work. She'll be easy to keep going since it seems you can service it yourself and it cost you way less than a chromed up polished Hog or Beemer. Be sure to park your good ol Honda right next to the shiny new Hogs at work.

Enjoy what you bought and ride it until you can't. It's highly unlikely it will let you down.
