TL;DR
I created an antenna/mast/flag mounting arm for my ST-1300 for the purposes of getting on the air from anywhere while doubling as a flag mast.

This is a project I've been working on for several months now. Version 1 was very simple, however it was very flimsy because it was only 1/4" aluminum stock with a few holes drilled. My minor success with V1 left me with a strong desire to engineer a more robust system. Cue: V2. 1/2" aluminum bar, weight reducing slots, PLANNED rigidity features, and a more refined finished look. It is mounted to the factory GIVI trunk plate that came with the bike.
The arrangement of this system allows for several different antenna configurations.
1. Isolated 3/8-24 SO-239 connection to a Firestik or SS whip antenna
2. Isolated 3/8-24 double-eyelet (center & braid) to Firestik or SS whip antenna
3. Bonded 3/8-24 stud with blank isolation adapter (I machined mine, but similar to the Chameleon CHA-Blank)
4. Bottom-oriented barrel connection with nested 3/8-24 antenna mast mounted to the top (like the Chameleon CHA-CFM-16)
I currently have it in configuration #4 for these photos.
In all configurations the mounting rod can act as a ground distribution with the two 1/4-20 aluminum thumb screws for attaching ground radials. There is a layer of powder coat on the GIVI plate that mostly prevents grounding to the bike, so I do not yet have any internal electrical concerns about causing voltage spikes over ground (especially given my intended QRP operation when in the whip configuration).
I have a ForeverWave American flag being attached by their LED Whip sleeves of varying sizes based on the assembled system configuration.
