It seems like I've been having more medical adventures lately than motorcycle adventures. Around Christmas when I was working out, I felt a severe pain in my left leg after what felt like water running down it. Turns out the major artery is completely blocked by a blood clot behind the knee. So after being tested more than a prize hog at the fair for heart conditions and such (Cat scans, MRIs with chemical stressing, down the goozle sonograms, wearing a heart monitor, etc.), I finally have surgery scheduled on Friday 2/24/2017. From what I know, the surgeon will have to do a bypass like they do for blocked heart arteries which means stripping a vein out and installing it to bypass the clot. Looks like I'll be the 'horse pistol' (hospital) for several days afterwards. I'd really like this to go well as I'm rather fond of my toes and my foot on the left side for sure (and the right side as well)! ;-) So all prayers and thoughts will be much appreciated as the drama continues ... This sure is putting a cramp in my riding! :D

Wow Phil, so sorry to hear! I am sure it will go well.
Gotta keep that shifting foot in good working order....:)

Keep us posted as you progress. Best wishes,

ToddC

Will be praying for you Phil!

Better to catch such things in time to do something about them my friend... our hearts and prayers go out to you for a full and complete recovery.

Don't worry Phil, they do miracles these days on old models and make 'em like new. You will be fine but I'm praying for the doctor just in case. :D

You will get through this Uncle Phil, hoping for a speedy recovery for you! Please keep us posted!

Hey, at least it's winter time. They will have you back to riding shape in no time! Best of luck!

There is an old Chinese curse that goes something like 'May you live in interesting times'. Well, things are certainly 'interesting' for you - never a dull moment. But I'm quite sure you would prefer a different kind of excitement - or less of it! Thoughts and prayers will be coming your way.

Dang, Uncle Phil. I hate to hear this. I'm hoping and praying that everything turns out alright. It's a good thing they found it now, instead of later.

Ride Safe
John

Prayers sent your way my friend. As Dave said they can do wonders these days.

Prayers that they fix you up properly! In the meantime, hang in there!

And get and less stressful exercise program!

See Unca Phil, you gotta take it easy when you get nominated for MOTY. :D

I wish your surgeon a steady hand and a quick mind, prayers your way my friend!!!

Dang! Be a good patient, do physical therapy, and get well soon. You a lot of fun to hang with. Prayers sent.

Good luck Phil, I hope everything works out and the Doc's can get you back on the road real soon.

Uncle Phil. glad issue was found now rather than later! Later would not have been good. Understand your thoughts as I had a triple bypass 20yrs. ago. Prayers go to you and the surgeon!

Wow... hoping all goes well! That being said, ask the doctor if "interventional Radiology" similar to what my daughter had. There was no vascular surgery... they put her on blood thinner drip for 24 hours, then went into the vein behind here knee, inserted a wire for focused ultra-sound energy and another blood thinner drip in the local area. Left her on that for 18 hours, then took her back into the radiology lab, installd a filter to catch anything trying to migrate to the heart and lungs, injected dye and bust up some of the remaining clot, did multiple angioplasty on her and installed a couple of stents. The procedure is relatively new and allows them to focus treatment. It has a much faster recovery rate. Worth a chat with the doctor. My daughter had the last procedure on Tuesday and was released on Thursday. Lots cheaper...

Oh, praying for you!
