Coming off other bikes, new to the ST, I find the throw of the throttle to be much too far. Has anyone fiddled/changed the cam to make the twist (stop to WOT) less?
Looking at G2 on a PC (not my Blackberry)- they offer similar cams as I am speaking of, but for only dirtbikes. I sent them an email and will update this thread when I hear back. For giggles- anyone else interested in this? I'd love to be able to tell them, "Hey, I got 25 guys that want one".
To be clear, I want the overall throttle Idle-stop to WOT-stop, my right wrist, to be about 66-75% travel of what it is now. I still want 100% throttle, just less twisting- and do it all mechanically at the throttle body. What is interesting; is the dirt ones they make offer a fine(r) sensitivity right ff the idle stop, then up at the wider position more rapidly goes on up to 100% (via an eccentric cam). I like it- so you have finer control making u-turn and such- ya don't need that granularity up above say 50% throttle..
The G2 throttle tamer actually does change the cam on the other end. But it changes it the wrong way for you. Actually makes it pull a little longer. Like mentioned many of us don't like the abrupt on/off and the G2 tames this out. The tract that the cable rides in is cut like a cam so it pulls the cable less at first as you roll on the throttle then more later. Is your bike stock or used? Maybe it has a G2. They are easy to spot as the OEM throttle tube is plastic and the G2 aluminum. If you pull off the bar end and see plastic you know you have OEM.
Thanks for the comments. Mine is a new '12, serial number "10" as it turns out. Yep, as stated, down at the first 20% of throttle we can use "taming" strategy to smooth things out- but from there on up- let's get there with less twist (as it won't be so sensitive).
If you find something like that, let me know. I put the G2 on last year along with a different fuel pressure regulater to tame the low end snatchies, but ended up with a bike that you need to crank the throttle like an old wind up telephone to get it to move. The G2 will probably be coming off this spring - don't like having to re-grip to accelerate..
