Can someone please tell me if the ABS speed sensors are interchangeable between front & rear & are there different ones for different years?

The best way to find out is to look at the OEM parts lists on a dealer website.

If I'm remembering right, in the States, the

'03 to '07 front sensor are all the same part number.
2008 - 2014, front sensor, they made a change to it, from the '03-'07.
The back sensor are all the same part number.

But you should verify that.

2008 onwards, the front wheel changed from the castellated pulsar ring to a stamped steel disc with elongated slots. The Uk bike specifies a different sensor for the 2008 onwards and the pre 2008 front.

(although the ST1100 has different part numbers front and back, yet they were interchangeable. The main difference being the colour of the connector and a slight difference in lead length ).

Good info thanks. Now I can't get to the bike now as it's locked away in storage. Now I know there's only one on the bike,I'm assuming there's only one on the front?

Yes - just one on each wheel. Simply put, it sends a series of pulses which represent the speed of each wheel to the ECU, and the ECU can use this to decide whether or not a particular wheel has locked up.

Look up 'Hall Effect' for more detailed information if you wish to know more. The ST1100 ABS/TCS models compared the info from both sensors to determine whether the rear wheel was losing traction and spinning up.
