I normally do all my own work yet am curious if there is anyone who is a specialist in cleaning/rebuilding the ST1100 Carburetor. It can be a task to pull the air cleaner base so the Air Cut Off valves can be checked and install new O-rings on the fuel tubes. (Actually pulling the air cleaner base is easy – putting it back together is a bit rougher – I’ve yet to figure an easy way to get the upper plenum back on the carb bodies)

I normally do all my own work yet am curious if there is anyone who is a specialist in cleaning/rebuilding the ST1100 Carburetor. It can be a task to pull the air cleaner base so the Air Cut Off valves can be checked and install new O-rings on the fuel tubes. (Actually pulling the air cleaner base is easy – putting it back together is a bit rougher – I’ve yet to figure an easy way to get the upper plenum back on the carb bodies)
The last time I did that job I removed the screw at each end and slackened the four on the little bracket underneath, that hold the four carbs together (not too much, just about one turn). Removed the bracket that holds the four intake rubbers. This makes everything all wobbly and if you then lower the housing onto the carbs, look under it with a torch and make sure the little brass stubs enter through the rubber flanges, give the rubber pipes a jiggle and you will find the carbs, housing and rubber flanges all come together and you can pop a screw in each as they marry up to hold them together. When you've got them all together, fit the other four screws, tighten them up and fit the rubber intakes support bracket then, turn it over and fit the two end screws and tighten them at the same time as the four on the little bracket. It doesn't sound easy but it is more easy than doing them while they are clamped together, and; you will be happy that all the rubbers are correctly in position. Obviously, take the whole thing off the engine complete and refit complete. Most times you don't have to separate them then!

A good supplier for carb bits at a reasonable price is Sci. (siriusconinc) on ebay. They are quick and you get the right bits, unlike the cheaper ones that don't fit and are made the wrong shape.

Swede - thanks for that, and I'll try it the next time I do one of these sets. The old GL500's and GL650's are so easy!

I found a guy on ebay. Send him the carbs after paying. You can use gift cards if worried about your credit card. So far he did a good job on the carb rebuild. Very smooth. The carbs work great. Warm day instant on. He's in Florida good communication. A year or so ago.
This is my warning helpful advice. I finally got the carbs back on with new boots between carbs engine. I turned the the tightening bolts on the new boots in a place for easier tightening. Wrong! My bike wouldn't rev past 4500 on the road in 4th or 5th. A limitation on my revs. Wouldnt rev. I thought it was throttle controls. No. It was those boot screws sticking out a little on the front righthand side. The carb linkage was hitting those. Rotated that boot with screws to a more lower place in the middle well away from the linkage, but still can reach those tightening screws from an angle. Now it worked great. This was only about the seventh time I took those carbs off. Whew! Make sure you order new fuel hoses of various sizes. Twice old rubber broke and fuel leaks. Take old pieces off to compare. Hope that helps, these bikes are getting old and the carbs need rebuilding.

Is this the shop in Bradenton, FL. - Romaxcycles - If so I have recently become aware of them and they appear to have a good reputation.

I normally do all my own carb rebuilds but I don't like splitting the bodies apart to replace the fuel tube o-rings, as they are a real pain to get back together.

Yep, #1 clamp, sorry… we’ve known about that issue for a couple of decades now (written up a few places). Glad you got it sorted out.

If you are in NE Illinois I know a guy that can and will work on them. My dealership sent me to him cause they wouldn't touch it. He is great.

I have a guy that worked for Honda for 35 years and he can do them. I wanted to let you know things are really getting bad out there. At my local Honda dealer went in to buy some molly paste to lube my rear end splines and kid did not know what a st1100 was. And stated there is no molly grease only gear oil in the final drive. So i asked for the service department personel since the parts monkey did not know crap. Some kid a little older than him came out and said go get some grease from walmart thats what they use for splines on shaft drive bikes. I said don't they need a molly grease and he said no any grease will do:eek:

Some kid a little older than him came out and said go get some grease from walmart thats what they use for splines on shaft drive bikes. I said don't they need a molly grease and he said no any grease will do:eek:
My local Honda dealer uses blue Bel-Ray grease on splines. o_O
