Aussie ST grounded - no Moly paste

Christian, here is a Canadian source that should have stock

you should link "which" product meets the minimum 60% moly paste requirement. Also, isn't Canadian shipping to Australia similar to US shipping to Australia?

Hi Caldercay, the link works for me and takes you to http://www.molyslip.com/products/.

My offer was to Christian, the previous poster, and other Canadian members, as opposed to Duporth, the original poster.

However, if I thought I could get it across the border to any country without undue aggravation, I’d open the offer up globally. Since I’m not a global chemical distributor, not a likely thing! :)

I think with the pandemic, there are incredible delays in shipping across different contries. In canada, the customs now take a huge amount of time (up to one month, instead of few days or hours) just to clear the package from customs.

I’ve had the full range of experience, from shipments taking days to others simply not getting here. I’m personally not buying into the Covid-is-the-problem excuse when, so far, I’ve seen no consistency to shipments coming into Canada. My last order from Germany 6 days to get here from what I recall. My replacement order of buffs from Noraly have been at a DHL hub in The Netherlands for 13 days.

Coronavirus? Maybe...

I’ve only shipped a few things overseas (non to Australia!) and the same randomness seems to apply. However, that’s a very small number compared to the inbound shipments so I’m not sure it means anything.

PS Guaranteed to get 65% paste in your hands within days, Christian!

For a glass of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, I’ll drive it to you myself!

:) We’re hijacking this thread, Christian!

I couldn’t get Loctite in a timely fashion years ago when I got into this craziness. Molyslip got it to me in days so I’ve stuck with them over the years.

Lol! Smaller orders more frequently is my moto!

Reminds me of the time, to lighten the mood, our CEO sent a text to all the directors in a serious meeting with an Amazon link for 200 litre drums of personal lubricant.

I was the only on who noticed that only 1 drum was unused...

No, this is not a ‘Moly thread’ but;

I have researched availability in Australia of Moly Paste suitable for the ST’s drive splines and there is none in the country. None at all, in any part of our wide brown land, none! So, I have grounded my ST and will have to import Moly paste from across the globe. How can this be I ask?

I hope no Aussie jet aircraft, heavy highway transport, railways engines, turbines and other machinery need Moly paste ‘cause there’s none here!

btw; I am also puzzled why manufacturers of Moly paste hide the Molybdenum content of their MP, in their technical specification, nowhere to be found (?)

Grounded and Puzzled D
Mate, you are absolutely right about the hiding of the moly content; I don't know why this is the case. I use this stuff:

I will squeeze some out and send it to you for the price of postage. Let me know.

That's a nice gesture Jeff.

Subsequent headlines and story: :D
"Colorado Guy Arrested for Shutting Down the Entire US Postal System"
"A resident of Colorado mailed a dab of a strange gray substance in an envelope, which leaked out. The substance is being treated as hazardous as it turned all mail and all machinery within hundreds of feet a slimy gray texture, staining everything in it's path, and proving impossible to wash off the emergency responder's SCBA equipment and hazmat suits. Equipment cleanup is underway, with millions of USD in expense expected, and postal service nation-wide has been shut down as a security measure. Postal workers are carefully searching envelopes one at a time for additional such mail. Authorities were quick to detain the alleged perpetrator, who is not providing believable explanation for the material, claiming 'it is paste for Honda motorcycle splines'. Federal charges are being prepared."

Assembly lubes are for putting engines/transmissions back together to give an initial lube until oil circulates. Moly content is likely low. Better off with the TS-70 IMHO.

I recently started using Bel Ray, as recommended by Chris Harris a BMW mechanic and YouTube poster from The US.
Read the specs at the bottom of the page.

In addition, they are designed to dissolve in oil and wash away, leaving no residue. They are simply to prevent wear and scoring until the oil pressure gets up to steady state pressures for new engines. Assemb. lubes are not long time lubricants.

I didn't find any info at the bottom of the linked page about content. I did find 40% moly content at the Bel Ray site.

What is the Honda recommendation? 60% or was it 65% moly?

I thought it was, "more than 40". Yet another clear direction from mother Honda.
Hope you don't mind but I posted your recommendation for TS70 earlier in the thread.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, SO MUCH guys for your help here. There are too many of you to respond to individually but I am very grateful for all your responses. From all over the planet!

I was ready to order the Loctite LB 8012 from the US but decided it was not feasible re long delivery time and risk, apart from paying more for the postage than the item cost. I investigated Aussie supply of TS-70 and found it is available in large quantities only. Jeff offered to send me some of his TS-70 supply from the States. How kind is that! Thanks Jeff, but I will go ahead as below.

The Bel Ray is available here and looks good too, but in the end I opted for MOLYBOND GA50 (thanks TerryS) which I should have by the end of the week. GA50 is a 'local drop' and it’s specs are as below. I see the word "paste" in the specs so I am ignoring the word "grease" also in the specs, as 'Beggars can't be choosers'.

Many thanks again to all.

I am also happy I didn't create a M--- thread. Phew!

D
