commute went without incidents... that's something at least... 🚘

but a strange atmosphere at the company... trying to figure out what that's about... 🤔

It's 48, going to 62 in Geneva this morning.

We had a nice walking tour of the city, and then took a walk along the lake. More walking brought us back to the same Italian restaurant where we ate the day before. Pizza, this time.

Thanks for the coffee, Martin. It used to be, when I was up at this hour it was stupid early. Since yesterday it's just regular early.

It's 44°F and clear in Rockville, slated to be sunny with a high around 75. That should be about ideal for a round of goof, which will occupy me for most of the day.

stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Fridays surgery went well. They put me to sleep, and three seconds later they woke me up, good to go.
My clock insisted I had slept for two hours.
Will take some weeks until I have the full use of the hand again, but I’m not in a rush.
Pain is bearable.

Today is just about nothing.

47/72 and mostly cloudy.

Oil change day, so it’s off to the parts store for filters. I have a fresh 5 gallon pail that will be just about be empty when I’m done. F250 gets 7qts, SUV gets 7qts, ST1300 gets 4, and the mower get 1.5. So, when I’m done, I should have 16 ounces left out of the pail, which is just enough for an oil change in the generator.

@ibike2havefun I was waking up stupid early, now I’m waking up regular stupid.

Yeah, it could be stronger. 😁 But at least it's hot and it's not left out overnight.
I agree with your view of Stu's stitches, but most of us don't do that every day, and I could only have done it a little bit better, not a lot better.
But I do have a nice set of different X-acto knives in a variety of shapes for carving... by hand.
Saturday I changed the oil on the GSA, and after changing the filter and refilling it, i found the crush washer in the old oil.
What?! That was just dumb!
Also found my very old plastic oil catch pan has a tiny spider crack on the very bottom, allowing the oil in it to slowly seep out of it. Fortunately, I always put it on cardboard, so I saved the driveway from a huge mess.
No problem, I'll go to WallyWorld Sunday and buy another. Nope, there was only one, and I didn't like it.
So, off to Auto Zone. They had only one and it held 16 quarts. Much too big, I don't have a diesel truck. Strike 2.

And of all the crush washers at Auto Zone, none were the size I need. I'll reuse the old one again.
Fortunately, the bike didn't leak oil Saturday overnight, so I rode it to church, and I checked under the bike before I left, no leaky.
Sunday afternoon I decided to drain the oil back into the original oil jug. It BARELY fit under the oil drain, with the bike on the centerstand. Maybe a quarter inch between the drain bolt and top of the jug.
So I put the oil jug in another large pan, which caught the oil for the 2 seconds or less while I slid the jug directly beneath the drain and put the old crush washer back on the drain bolt.
A common maintenance chore doesn't require all this drama. And it usually doesn't happen this way. But it's me.
Checked this morning, still no oil drip.
Works for me.
Next I need to plug in the GS911 and reset the maintenance interval.
No oil on the driveway, only on my hands.
The simple oil change should not have required all these words, but there it is.
No rain expected today until its time to leave the office. Then it is 80%, potential damaging storm warnings.
Meh.
I have all i need to stay dry.
But Kaiser does not, so no ride for him today.
I didn't forget any other stories today, and the oil level in the BMW is correct, so y'all have had enough out of me for coffee this morning.
I'll see y'all later in another thread, unless someone calls me back here.

... frankly, I would have simply attached the hose of my shop-vac to the engine's oil filler neck and let it rip while removing and re-installing that darn drain plug... ;)

But then I'd have an oily hose to clean up. And all the dust and dog hair in the garage would LOVE to live in there.

Other than that, on the boxers (not talking underwear!), the oil fill is directly onto the right hand piston / cylinder, and the cam chain is directly under the filler cap.
Maybe you could get a brake bleeding plastic hose down there, but it wouldn't get far down in there.
Otherwise... good idea!
 
Thanks for the coffee Martin. I read it every day but I don't post much to the Coffee Club as I don't want to burden folks with my issues but I felt compelled to post today. It is a bit of a special day today. March 9 1972 in a small German town of Ruhpolding, in Southern Bavaria . Remembering this day, in a land far away, 54 years ago today Sue and I committed to a life long journey together. It has been an exhilarating ride, with ups and down and twist and turns. And here we are with that commitment still as strong as it was way back then. Happy 54th Anniversary to my beloved wife, Sue.

It's almost 8:30 and I'm already itching for a third cup...too early to tell yet if I can call it a "good" morning. Half of me liked the little time of daylight before starting work, but disliked the manner in which I was woke up (the Herd). Now, the herd still wakes me up but I don't get that buffer time to absorb my first cup before dealing with pesky coworkers. But I do get to sleep up to my alarms now. Welp, don't have a choice, sooo I must soldier on.

Another WFH day for me, and it's actually sunny outside for once...terrible day to spend inside in front of computers. 40F/4C but headed up to 70F+. If I can get some garage work done in between breaks, or yank some weeds while the soil is still soft that'll be greeeatttt.

Even yesterday was beautiful outside. Got the dogs walked, pulled a generator out to try and finish attaching the propane hose to find out my fix wouldn't work. Parts ordered. And got the hedge trimmer mostly running but the carb needs adjustment...don't have that special tool yet. On order. And I also...napped, much to the cat's delight.

Eh, I think it's time to find some breakfast to smooth out some of the coffee. Take care y'all!

As a "sometimes cat sitter" (GF's daughter #1...) I can relate...
 
@Sadlsor You can always replace the drain plug with a Fumoto drain valve, and attach a short hose to the valve. No tools, no crush washer, no dropped plug. I put one on the truck. It’s nice, real nice.
 
There's also 2 other simple fixes:
1. turn the bike upside down so no oil comes out the plug.
2. don't forget the crush washer to begin with.
 
Morning all! Grey and wet here though it's starting to clear off to the west. 3C right now with a predicted high of 7C though there is a snowfall warning of about 3 cm in the Greater Victoria area. I sure hope not, I left the skis for the ST at home.....

Congrats to both Stoo and Chuck. Different reasons but both reasons to celebrate. Hope the healing is quick and smooth Stoo.

Spent a chunk of yesterday putting in a subfloor over engineered hardwood for a gym I am installing in my office. Put down a layer of ramboard, then 5/8 plywood and finally I will top it all with some rubber tiles. I'm putting in a wall mounted folding cage as well so I can do some leg work to try and build the muscle up around my creaky knees. Only time will tell if I have built an expensive clothes rack.....

British Columbia has decided to move to daylight savings time permanently so theoretically this was our last time change. Should be interesting to see how this pans out....
