In case anyone is interested, I've just ordered a new St1300 seat from Bagster (www.bagster.com/en). Picture of design attached.

They do a custom design service on the web site, where you can choose the colour and material for all panels, plus have gel inserts. My ST1300 is an '02 red - hence the colours I've chosen. The "Pan European" logo lettering will be on the new rider backrest part of the seat. You can have any lettering such as ST1300 if you prefer.

The cost including gel inserts was about ?260 (I had to supply a spare seat which I bought from a breakers).

***** Update 17th June 05 ******

CAUTION: There is a fault on the Bagster web site software, where the printed specification does not correspond to the colours and fabric you designed into your picture of the seat.

The actual specification for my seat was:

1. Rider sitting panel Grainy black - 14
2. Side front panel Red - 05
3. Backrest Grainy black - 14
4. Rider central strip Black carbon - 18
5. Piping and overstitching Red - 05
6. Central passenger sitting panel Grainy black - 14
7. Passenger side panel Red - 05
8 Passenger rear panel Black carbon - 18
Lettering: Pan European Red - 05
Gel inserts
Foam work and sculpting as per "Bagster seat" design

You can see the errors in the software on items 5,6,7 and 8 from the image attached below.

Regards,
Rob

Looks awesome Rob. Please follow up on this puppy, I'm sure there are lot's of ST owners interested in something like this seat. :bow1:

Rob, when your new seat(s) arrive, please post you honest report (prefereably after a 200 mile ride-out!).

It's difficult getting a superior comfy saddle on this side of the pond. The Russell Day-Long is an option I've considered, but with (a) compulsory import VAT; (b) the shipping costs to/from Shasta, CA - outbound and inbound, plus; (c) an irritating Post Office "handling fee", makes the Day-Long a very expensive option. Moreover, the Greenback is currently strengthening against Sterling, which doesn't help matters (from a Brit's perspective).

Some pics would be good too.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I subscribed to this thread in hopes of a solution to finding a comfy seat, without raising seat height. This one looked awesome and the site described the final seat position as 2 inches lower? Too good to be true. Keep the info coming. Thanks

The seat option I went for was to have gel pads inserted and have the rear of the rider and pillion seats lowered by 2cm (it's not 2 inches), to level out the seat and stop the rider and pillion sliding forwards. However you can customise what you want - anything from 2cm lower up to 2cm higher than original. You can also change the size of the rider portion of the seat, I think up to 2cm longer than orig., but since I ride with pillion quite a lot, I didn't want to encroach into SWMBO's territory!

I suggest anyone interested has a play on the web site www.bagster.com/en and design your own seat. You will then be able to see all the options that are available. (This web site does not accept on-line orders, you have to post the form off separately, with your original seat).

Bagster say that the original Honda foam is removed, and replaced with graded orthopaedic foam, whatever that means!

As for price, the custom seat(s) without gel inserts were ?199 == $364
The gel inserts were ?50 == $91.44
Postage from France to the UK was ?25 == $45.72
I supplied a seat I bought from breakers for ?140 == $256.10

*** My original ST1300 seat will be available for sale in July for the same price I paid at the breakers, plus P&P. ***

There is a 6 week lead time to manufacture the custom seat, so I'll report back with actual pictures and ride experience in July.

Regards,
Rob

Hi guys, my first post on this forum, and i ain't got a ST....yet!!
I'm just sorting out a part ex deal on one for my VFR VTEC.

Back to the subject of seats. I had my VTEC seat modified by this guy http://www.motorbike-seats.co.uk/ if you look at the bar at the top you see the link to Pans.

I had my seat fitted with gel pads front and rear, keeping the same height and with his non slip vinyl. The quality is excellent and he's a great bloke to deal with. He can lower the seat as well as make it higher and do piping in the colour of your choice.
I'm not sure if he'll ship to the states or world wide but a quick email and i'm sure he'd let you know. I sent him a donor seat i bought off someone so i still have my original, but he'll sometimes get hold of seats himself, so you can keep yours, or he'll do a part exchange for your old seat.

I'll send him an email myself and find some info.

Great site BTW guys, ride safe :)

My Bagster seat arrived yesterday (15th June) and I've ridden about 120 miles on it. Fantastic! It's so comfortable compared with the STock seat. Feels like I'm sitting in an armchair. My pillion passenger loves it as well. The gel inserts and the new orthopaedic foam take the thump out of all the bumps, and I feel so much more stable. The quality of workmanship is excellent. I've posted some pictures.

Regards,
Rob

I went to the site to try builiding a seat. I think this would be a very cool gift for a certain new ST1300 owner I admire (shhhh.... keep it down, I don't want to blow the surprise). Anyway, I can't figure out exactly where you can get to designing the seat. Any help?

Hi Dorian,

Go to www.bagster.com/en
Click on the "make your seat!" icon
Specify make and model of motorcycle
Type = bike
Brand = Honda
Model = St1300 Pan European
Year = 2002 to 2005

Then choose the colours and type of fabric you want. There is a bug in the program that results in an incorrect specification, although the colours on the seat design look OK. So sort out your "image" then phone Baglux UK to sort out the details. I posted the specification for mine earlier in this thread. There's also a poll entitled design your own seat where I posted some different colours.

I do have my "original seat" available for sale at ?150 plus P&P if anyone needs a spare one to modify, rather than giving up your own seat for 4 weeks. After you get your new seat you can then sell your original one.

I suggest that you contact Vinny at the email address or phone number below. He was very helpful.

The other thread with pictures of other colour seat designs (for those with slower colours than the cherry red '02 ;) ), is here:

https://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3970

Bagster will make exactly what you want. There are so many colour and vinyl finish type options it can get confusing. So if you are planning to order a seat and want to check your specification with me for possible errors, then post your design here and I'll help out with review.

The shiny carbon fiber black vinyl looks very nice for the panels you don't sit on but I wouldn't choose it for the seating area because it's very slippery. You can probably see from my photos that the rearmost edge of the rider and pillon seat is trimmed with the shiny carbon fiber black.

Rob

DOH!!!! I must have clicked on every page at that site as well as rolled my pointer over every part of the page. Yet I didn't see that part that said "Make Your Seat." I guess they need to put a white helmet on it? (sick humor, my apologies)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hey Rob - I'm double super impressed. That's gotta be as good as it gets on this side of the Pond. The design and finish appears to be right up there alongside the custom seats that our merrycan bros can acquire from manufacturers like: Sargent, Corbin, Mayer, et all.

But I'm left wondering if the comfort matches that of a custom made Russell Day-Long? Only you can tell us this Rob - and only then, of course, if you've ever owned a Russell, which I guess you probably haven't.

So keep us posted on the comfort front, which might get even better if the covering material loosens-up a bit and gets softer after a few hundred miles ("breaks-in" so to speak).

I'm now hooked on Bagster/lux products in any case, as I got a new tank cover and bag from them recently. After this summer's all ridden out I'm definitely going to look into having a seat just like your new one with a different colour combo (I have a silver ?04).

Cheers, and well done on a great buy.

Attaining the Bagster seat on our side of the pond is a difficult task. I just checked with the only vendor in the U.S. and they claim they have been asked not to sell the seat in the U.S. They stated that the cost of shipping the original seat to France, having it modified and shipped back would put the seat in the US$800.00 cost range. So they have chosen not to sell it.

That doesn't sound right. Has anyone seen what the D.Q. crowd is paying for their aftermarket seats? US$800.00 would seem reasonable to some.

Oh well, it looks like if I want to surprise a special someone with the seat I may need to brush up on my French.... er... Freedom.

Dorian,

Contact Bagster UK - I posted the details above. They will be only too keen to help you, and I am sure the price will be about ?250 plus carriage. I have my original seat for sale at ?150 plus P&P say ?15 and I will post it straight to Bagster Uk with your name and return address details on it if you want me to.

Regards,
Rob

Dorian - You're dead right. Back in the winter I looked seriously at acquiring a Russell Day-Long. The costings worked-out like this:

$615.00 for saddles (with leather inserts)
$100.00 shipping (return delivery)
$715.00 converts to

?374.17 Sterling; plus

? 90.00 shipping out
? 66.00 VAT (estimated)
? 25.00 Post Office ?handling fee?
?555.17

?555.17 = USD$1,017.00, which is just a bit too much for a refurbished saddle.

Rob - You making Dorian - or some other lucky US rider a hellava good offer there.

Wow! Dorian, I've only been on this forum for a few days and you're already buying me a seat?! Thanks!
