Battery not charging, test and replace alternator?

What I learned is the dealer installed the quartet harness in the wrong location, he hung it under the front faring and above the fender. I disconnected it and still not charging, going to hang it in the proper location since I learned where that is on this awesome site! I am going to close the bike up and bring it to a dealer to fix. I am not into taking the throttle body and other things off just to get to alternator.
 
So today is 4 weeks since I dropped the motorcycle off. I have called them no less than 5 times and stopped by once. I have been told they keep looking at it but not sure what the problem is. At what point do I just tell them to give the bike back and trailer it home and figure out what to do next?
 
As an old auto tech...can they reproduce the problem? Are they too busy for this type of work? Do they not have the technical skills?

All three are reasons to go somewhere else..or home. Current times are a bit weird but 4 weeks is a long time to wait on something not related to parts being shipped.

I suspect you will have to find someone who is knowledgeable about this platform and its specific issue in order to resolve the problem.

Or...jump in with both feet with the help of the people on this forum and fix it yourself.

They have seen the bike is not charging, I have a battery tender that show voltage at all times. I knew they were behind they told me that in advance. But 2 weeks ago I stopped by and the service manager said my bike was scheduled for the next day. Gonna call and talk to him and tell him I would rather not take the bike back, would rather they fix is and get paid but they gotta work on it.
 
Check the battery ground wire where it attaches to the frame, this can cause the issues you are having etc.
I may be wrong, but I doubt that a person can hook up the wire harness backwards due to the connections etc.
 
Just spoke to the shop. It is not the grounding wire as I and they did a lot of diagnostic work. What I meant by the wire harness is that the dealer installed it correctly, but they mounted it where a lot of dirt and water can get in it. I thought the short might have been a result of that. They needed approval to get to the stator which is a 4 hour job. I told them go for it because that was my next step but did not want to do that work.
 
You may as well just sign a blank check over to the shop, as most young technicians don’t have a clue on trouble shooting and will just keep throwing parts at it until your upside down in dept.
You may be better off trying to contact folks from the forum who are nearby you for assistance (RAN list) and ask for help. Lots of good suggestions have been provided already.
 
I do not disagree with you but I spoke to the tech who is working on the bike. He really knows his stuff and spent a lot of time diagnosing before deciding to take the bike down to the stator, which is expensive. This job is going to cost me and I am somewhat ok with it because I chose not to fully take the bike apart myself.
 
Here is the latest update. I need a new alternator. I know it is going to cost a lot but I chose to have the shop do the work rather than myself. I do believe the issue with the alternator is a result of a problem with the heated grips. I am not having them put back on just to be safe. I now need to find a replacement fairing piece where the unit was installed, I do not want to a hole there and since I moved to SC I do not need heated grips so no need to replace with new ones. Know where I can buy fairing parts?

I recently did an alternator change. I picked up a used CTX1300 alternator and did the work myself. It is time consuming but not overly hard.

I know but I don't have the time or patience right now. So I am good with the crazy price tag, but I am sure I will cry when I actually have to pay the bill. :)
