Best method to sell Dad's ST1100?

Hi all,

First time poster here. My Dad passed away a few years ago, leaving me with his ST1100. He lived to 95 and rode the bike till he was 87... so a good long life. It's a beautiful 1998 model with only 28,000 miles. Plus a whole set of Touratec panniers.

I kept thinking I would someday get on the bike and do some touring, but it's now been ten years that the bike has been sitting in a storage unit. I spoke with a couple of mechanics and they both said it would be cost prohibitive to have a mechanic recondition the bike. All the gaskets, fuel lines, tires and other rubber parts would need to be replaced. The gas tank might need to be pulled (as there was gas in the tank when it was stored). They said it could be a great project for someone who has motorcycle mechanic skills and tools, but that's not me.

I've decided it's time to part with it and I'm wondering what would be the best method for selling it. This site? Facebook Marketplace? eBay?

Also, is Kelly Blue Book the best way to figure out the value? ChatGPT estimated its value in the $2500 to $2900 range, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations for this newbie.

If you wish to sell it to move it, I would list it for $1500. I believe that to be a fair price. The fact it has been stored for 10 years and not ridden can be a good thing or bad thing. The bad things are what the mechanics have articulated, which indeed could be possible.
Do you know if it’s the ABS model or the standard?
St 1100s have their own panniers. Did you mean a Tourteck top box? The panniers would be an uncommon modification.
At that price you will find a buyer willing to take on the project, they will be happy with the purchase, and you will have moved it in a short period of time
 
If it sat in storage with in it for ten years, pretty sure the carb jets will be gummed up.
$2000-$2500 would be for a running ST1100 in great cosmetic condition - unless someone really wants the bike.
You can tell if it is an ABSII by the front fender and the position of the turn signal indicators.
On the ABS models the indicators are about halfway down each side of the black gauge bezel.
And the front fender looks a bit like 'batman' from the front with built in fork protectors sticking up.

For a non running ST that’s likely going to need a fair amount of work, probably in the neighborhood of maybe $1000 (that’s just an opinion)- someone who buys it is going to have to pick it up in Colorado and then that’s just the beginning of the project. It may be a diamond in the rough, or it could be a basket case, and no one will know that until they dig in. If it’s too far gone, it may wind up as a parts bike, which would be unfortunate, but as you mentioned, rust in the tank and fuel system can be a lot of work to sort out.

What might help the sale (a bit) is some pictures here, including showing overall condition of the bike, and if you can get it, close ups of the open gas cap with the inside of the tank, so people can see how much cleaning of the tank will be needed. I would assume after 10 years the fuel would mostly be evaporated and leave behind residue. If not too badly rusted in the tank, it might not be tough to get it running again. Once it’s sorted out and running again, it could be a great road bike.
 
I paid $500 for a similar condition st1100 a few years ago and spent about $800 in just parts and tires to get it back on the road. I do all my own work and even replace my own tires.
