My brakes locked up while riding the other day and I've read some of the posts here about the common problems with the SMC and brakes in general on the ST1300.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Houston/Katy area that has experience working on these brake systems?

Thanks,
Randal

I reckon I'm not alone in thinking you'll be better off, doing it yourself with the able assistance of members here.
Got tools?
I say this for two reasons, born out and affirmed by the experience of many.
1. It's entirely possible many Honda dealers will not want to accept your bike, due to age.
2. In the event a dealer agrees, there's a high likelihood they are unfamiliar with the unusual design of the Linked Braking System, and it's easy to service them properly, but even easier to foul up the whole system.

Sorry I didn't actually answer your question.

Reread @Sadlsor's post. He said it all. Horror stories abound, especially for the braking system. If the mechanic does not follow the service manual's directions explicitly, he will bungle the job.

If you can use a smart phone, you can do your own maintenance on these bikes, especially for the brakes. We can talk you through the procedures. There are also articles written (with diagrams and pictures) for these bikes on this website. Browse Articles > ST1300 Articles > enter in the blue band atop this page.

Search for this article (magnifying glass, top-rightif you're using a phone):

"SMC not moving at all when braking"
It has a link to another article in it, which has another link... these will be very helpful, while I or someone else find the article I was really looking for.
