Can’t Miss The Game

This is funny, all this discussion.. yet you don't like Flock cameras... HAAAAAA!
No equivalency.

I like the concept of ANPR/ALPR/etc. Just like I like red light cameras and speed cameras. The problem I have with all that kit is they're almost always owned and maintained by third parties. I've been told police employees. There's the incentive of sellers of such equipment to tilt the scales of justice in favor of law enforcement for increased financial gain. For the vendor.

FLOCK is the most egregious of the bunch but not the only ones. They take the data gleaned from one department and share it nationwide with other agencies with literally no oversight. FLOCK also have an abysmal record of accurately reporting crime related plates. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver had an excellent episode on FLOCK Inc. and it's many failures along with sales tactics to convince police and city council that lipstick makes into a cash cow.

It also addressed plans to implement residential security camera networks with police systems. I don't recall if this is actually a thing in some places. But it's creepy as hell.

Redlight cameras often have the yellow lights shortened to 'catch' more red-light violators. I'm in favor of the cameras but not with using illegal/unethical tactics to catch violators.

I'm not familiar with speed camera abuse as they were illegal in CA until relatively recently where we now have a pilot program or two.

I'm all for fattening city coffers for the public good off the backs of violators. But rigging the scales in that favor is wrong and unacceptable.
