Car tire

I don’t dark side my bikes (and I have no opinion one way or the other for folks that do), but as in Ryan F9’s video above), there’s an indication of potential spontaneous de-beading…I guess the real question is…is that a real world issue that people have experienced? Likely not, I assume, otherwise, many would more strongly argue against it. For me, I don’t mind changing tires a bit more often (like every 8K miles or so per set), only as it gives me an opportunity to check my splines in the back as well as the bearings of both wheels when off the bike.

I sometimes get a farcebook notification from a couple of darkside groups i have visited, reminding me of a new post.
I'm not in those groups very often. But there are a couple of threads on ADVrider about the subject, too.
There was only one crash I've ever seen mentioned by a darkside rider, but nothing about the tire coming off the rim, or even if it was tire-related.
The cause of the crash was not determined, to the best of my remembrance.
I am not saying it won't or can't happen, as there are countless / endless different riding scenarios, but for sure it is extremely rare.
I was a darkside denier for decades, but it's been working very well for me and the 1300.
It's not for me to tell someone else to do it or not, but I can say I'm glad I did.

I bought a CT for mine, but sold the bike before the rear tire needed the switch. Unsure if the new owner did it or not. I did give him the tire....

As noted a few places, the other concern is the profile of the tire and how it mounts on the MC rim. Due to different shapes, you don't have that backup lock method to keep the tire in place. Not saying this is a bad thing, as many folks have darksided without issue, but it's still a real thing. Motorcycles are inherently dangerous in themselves. We all have to assume our own level of acceptable risks. One should know all the facts when making an informed decision.
As Fleetwood Mac said " Two kinds of trouble in this world, living, dying "

I've been running Darkside for about 300,000 miles between all of my Valkyries. I run lower pressures than most at 25-28psi. I corner hard and sometimes pull a trailer. I've never experienced a "debead" nor anything even close. I do have a lot more traction available than with the bike tires, especially in the wet.
