Carb slides barely moving, very weak power mid rpm's and above

So I rebuilt the fuel valve with a new kit, following a video I came across - but it doesn't appear to be working, no idea why (it's a pretty simple device, I don't see many places where it could fail). The valve itself is simply not seating, and air passes in the inlet and right out. The spring seems way too weak to provide the pressure necessary to hold the rubber piece in the seat - with it partially assembled I can hold it in place and the valve seats, no air goes through. I must be missing something obvious here. I'm tempted to just go back to bypassing the valve, and move on.
I rebuilt the valve on my 1991 nearing three years back. Had a water AND gas leak overnight from under the carbs so I went overboard a bit. The original diaphragm was split....I'm confused over seeing no symptoms. I purchased a rebuild kit from an ebay seller. The rubber diaphragm was super thin and flimsy feeling. Bought another from another seller and the diaphragm seemed a bit more substantial. It's still working fine. If I have another issue, I'll likely just remove it.

Thanks Ron - one more vote for bypassing it. I'm convinced, not worth the trouble. Once I get it running properly I'm selling it, if anyone's interested.

Thanks Oldbikefixr - maybe that's the problem. I don't know. Bought a new OEM filter also, which won't fit the 1/4" bypass line. Oh well....

Honda uses this basic design of fuel filter on a number of bikes. There are three different inlet/outlet diameter combinations. I have several that will not fit my 1100. I started taking the old filter along to my local Honda shop just to make sure.

It's almost a 3-handed job (if there was room) to catch that diaphragm correctly in the housing. I'm betting some spot along the perimeter is not properly seated/captured by the housing.
Yeah pretty sure that's the case. Maybe some Permatex? Whatever - I'm more concerned about getting it running properly first. Re-did the fuel line bypass, with the OEM filter this time. Started up fine, but ran worse than last time - didn't even bother taking it for a ride. I think I'll try the Sea Foam treatment next...

Thanks! The filter I got was the same size in/out. Wish I'd found one with 3/8 in, 1/4 (?) out - not that tight a fit on the carb. line inlet, but cinching up the hose clamp tightly seemed to do it.

THANKS everyone - for all the time and patience on this and my other issues. I no longer have the time to dig into this (of my 6 other bikes, three are either apart or not yet running again). I'm now a spoiled consumer with my two new (first ever, out of my 20+ bikes!) Yamahas. I need to spend more time riding, less time diagnosing and fixing (used to love that, but now, not so much!.

SO, I'm selling it. I think I can list it here somewhere.....
