Well, I finished making the tool and got the nut off. And there was no freakin' way that was 80 lb/ft!!! 150-200 would be closer. Now, I will make this caveat, whoever at the Honda factory staked the nut on must have had a really bad day as the nut threads were completely smashed into the cut on the shaft! There was no way to get under the edge of it and un-stake it so some of the high torque was probably having to shear that little piece of nut.
Having removed the steels and fibres I can see quite a few of the steels are scored and blue so I pretty sure the cork on the frictions is smoked.
I made the tool not having realized there was a tool loan program here. I'm an aircraft mechanic but also the company's machinist.
