I've had a few instances of a strange occurrence concerning the clutch and wonder if anyone else has similar experience. Usually the clutch starts to engage as the clutch lever is let out about 1/3 of the way, but occasionally, only when starting out, it doesn't seem to engage until the lever is almost all the way out and then it's very grabby, and then it returns to normal It's still the original clutch with about 215K on it. Thanks.

In my opinion, the almost-all-the-way-out engagement point is normal, at least with hydraulic-clutch Hondas, and is where I adjust my cable-activated clutches.

I'd suggest starting with making sure you're not low on fluid, and perhaps it's time to do a fluid replacement. Maybe the master- and/or slave cylinder is worn.

Assume clutch fluid has been replaced regularly. If not flush through thoroughly. Then replace every 3 to 4 years.

If it persists then start by checking for build up of dried fluid in slave cylinder. Ignore workshop manual. It can be removed without removing engine.

Then look for leakage on master cylinder.

If non of the above remove front engine cover and check for wear on clutch basket.
