I would go Gmrs give you alittle more range vs the FRS with the capability of higher power and the Gmrs just require a fee to get your license we run GMRS while camping and have built a mobile repeater to get us more range

I disagree; we are abusing him, whether good-natured or otherwise.
But in many cases, that is the STOC Standard Operating Procedure, so I doubt he is actually surprised.
It can be entertaining to see what direct-to-ditch hijacks some of y'all come up with. My concept of "silliness" has been of necessity, modified several times since I've been hanging around here... while simultaneously confessing my own complicity sometimes in this same silliness.

- Checked out Sena and all I could fine was their Sena Freewire. It's basically a CB with bluetooth capability. But . . . pricy.
- Cell phones, we'll have them in any case.
- FRS radio range seems tied to watts output.
Found this pair on Amazon and available locally at Best Buy. 1.8 watts and 18 hours of run time.
Plus, these have 60 channels of FRS AND 14 channels of GMRS (without a license requirement)
Found these two at Walmart:
2 watts and 18 hours of run time
1.5 Watts and 9 hours of runtime.

use FRS low power car to car. It is all you need and will save the batteries.
If you are worried about being too far apart then use an external ( 6 db) antenna mounted high as you can (roof rack).
A good antenna mounted high is way better than more power in a poor antenna (rubber duck).
Have them use google maps on their phone with GPS tracking turned on, and they could follow the blue line home........
