Crazy service cost KTM

Now you pay a fortune for having a standard cig plug cause the woke objects...
One of the best development of the last 25 years was making smoking less acceptable in more and more places. Smelling the stale smoke in the morning on clothes worn at dinner the previous evening is not something I need to experience again.

... all part of the public acceptance of the increase in governmental control of every aspect of our lives. There ought to be a law ... :law1:

I never smoked, had no problem controlling or avoiding smokers in my immediate area, and never WOKE up smelling of smoke other than in campgrounds. You are welcome to make your own decisions ... Smoke em if you got em... :tent3:

Maybe being a mechanic for 40 plus years has taken the shine off of me doing an oil change, & saving chump change.
[/QUOTE
Chump change becomes major repair bill when jiffy lube cross threads the transmission drain plug ;)

I imagine we could devote many posts and many words about Qwik-Lube / Jiffy Change experiences, burns and ripoffs.
Live, spend, suffer, and burn. Then learn.
I hate 'em.

From what I've heard, the farm equipment manufacturers are doing the same thing to the farmers - making it impossible for them to work on their own equipment.
A recent book mentioned this and said the prices for used all mechanical tractors (no electronics) is skyrocketing.

I am still looking for a new car that has the "opitonal" roll down windows, an AM / FM radio,
A recent news article mentioned that virtually all the electric car mfrs have decided to NOT include AM band radios. Seems it costs a few extra bucks for filters to cancel the RF noise generated by the electronic circuit boards. The worry is that this will spell the demise of AM radio stations, which still have a fairly big following.

Hmm, now where have I heard that before? :think1:
Oh, yeah it was at that resort down there in SC ...hmm... something like Parris on an Island ...
... and on every environmental stroll in the woods (shortly followed by: Police your butts), or when the squids announced the smoking lamp was lit. :thumb:

I should have said 'the First Time' I heard it.
If you told the average person to 'field strip a butt' they sure would look at you funny nowadays ... ;)

No. What will kill the demise of AM radio spectrum will be because we need more wireless broadband. This is already firmly under way with the VHF UHF band used for television. FCC auctions for those bands been happening for years now. So it will be with the AM band.

That was not the thrust of the article I read. Radio stations make money by advertising. If no body listens to the radio at a particular time, the station has a hard time finding advertisers for that segment - that's why Super Bowl ads cost millions, because of the huge audience. Lack of bandwidth might be a reason too, but if nobody has an AM radio in their car (Tesla does not, as well as most of the other EV offerings) they cannot listen, and most of that happens while people are driving to and from work.

Lots of radios don’t have AM reception, on my motorcycle it only has FM and satellite radio. I have never checked if the car has an AM radio, I either listen to one of a couple of FM stations or on longer trips stream music over my phone. AM radio is dying from lack of audience, hard to keep the lights on when nobody is listening to the ads.

The AM band occupies the frequencies from 540kHz to 1700kHz, or in other words 1160kHz of spectrum, or 1.16MHz.

Broadband spectrum requires far more bandwidth than that 1.16MHz offers.

wait a minute, wasn't this a KTM service cost thread, ***** happened?

KTM requires dealers to buy a fortune of their specialized tools before you can take on line of bikes.

In this present environment I don't think a manufacturer of motorcycles can call any shots. Just think of it. If I was to try to get a franchise of motorcycles I'd have to pay for a building, sales people, mechanics, utilities, insurance and the bikes themselves. Probably need a cool half milliion or more just to get started. Now today motorcycle are not flying off the shelves and that means less service and profit. I think it's the other way around as dealers go out of business manufacturers are begging for someone to take on thier brand. Down where I use to live we had a stand alone Honda dealer for some 38 years. Fast forward to today and the Honda brand is only 5 or so small bikes shoved into a covey hole. Not even the flagship Goldwing is displayed. It's a different time we live in now.

Yep. The dealer that l mention was in business for at least 50 years in a rural area.Sold dealership to a RV dealer.Parts person used to work at Harley dealer across road that closed last year.Honda pulled out.You can buy a side by side made in China though.

Even 48 Volt electric one.Giddy up go daddy.
