Day o’ Saturn (march 14th) startup coffee and weather

Good morrow!
Your coffee is ready, brand Coop.
Brown bread with smoked salmon ( it’s «stricktly kosher» according to the package), boiled eggs, and as always pickled herring.
OJ and Pepsi as well.

6˚c/43f, overcast, showers, 15mph wind from south.

Last night our cat Snoop was attacked by Little Rasmus, a striped tigerlookalike mean cat, and was chased far from home.
We were afraid he was gone, but thankfully he came back this morning, unharmed it seems.
The days of Little Rasmus are numbered.

With my right hand still recovering, there’s not much to be done today.
A graveyard visit might be the highlight…..oooooh, that was a grim thought, pffft!

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the Coop Stu. Glad Snoop was able to flee to safety. None of our cats, past or present, was / were / is / are allowed outside. Lancelot would absolutely panic if I scooped him up and even moved in the general direction of a door. Mulan liked to site in the doorway as long as the storm door was closed (it has a full-length glass, so she could look out and watch the world) but she never showed interest in venturing out. Brie, on the other hand, takes a little watching because she's definitely curious about what's out there and would, I think, happily venture out to explore if we allowed it.

It's 47°F and clear in Rockville. Yesterday afternoon's / evening's stiff breeze has settled down to 9 mph from the W. We'll have a high around 55, and the wind will kick back up to the 15-20 mph range before dying down to nearly calm around sunset.

Yesterday was a day of idleness, the centerpiece of which was a nice long nap. I'll need to be at least a little more active today.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.
 
thanks for the coop and I'm glad the cat came back... :unsure:
lousy day for a ride here on the lower mainland; too cold and heading towards lots of rain speaking of which, couple nights ago we must have had the heaviest rainfall I can remember had to be a record
look forward to a quiet weekend maybe put some gas in something see if it still works... we're up to around 1.90 for regular now so that should mean 2.20 for anything I use

I'm glad the hand is healing.

It's 39 and partly cloudy , rising to 41 with wind expected.

Yesterday started out with a gym visit, and progressed to a visit to one of the local animal shelters. Brenda had her eye on a trio of calico sisters, and the house was too quiet. We brought them home, and they made a beeline under the futon in the spare room. Monica, Kailua, and Laguna are their names, and they're pretty skittish right now.
So far, the only way to tell them apart is by the color of their collar. Monica is the curious one, and she explored a bit , last night. The other two stayed huddled under the futon. This morning , they're no where to be found!
Brenda is on the hunt for them... and found them hiding in the center seat of our recliner couch. Laguna scooted out when we reclined the two end seats.

So, we went from one elderly cat, to three 4 year olds.

Congratulations on the new menagerie! I was just thinking this morning of Freya, and wondering whether you'd be taking in a successor (or three (!!!))

I was thrilled this morning when, without any coaxing by me, Brie hopped down from her cat tower perch, scampered over to me, and promptly did this:

That was almost an hour ago, and she's still there. This is the longest she's ever settled into my lap. Progress!

Thanks... I think!

It turned out that only one was in the couch. I think it was Laguna who booked it when Brenda checked. I found Monica inside another chair, between the tilt mechanism and the armrest. She took some scratches while in there, and I put down some food for her. No idea where the other two are.
We don't want to terrorize them, so we'll let them be. They had to pass the food and water on their way out of the spare room.

Beautiful weather. Sunny and 53…going to 73……Flurries, Monday.

Looks like I’ll be using my new $90 Chinese chain saw today. The wind keeps blowing the broken limbs from their perch. When the limbs are gathered, it’s time for the first mow. Fresh oil and new blades…I’m ready.

Good Morning Everyone, Clear Skies over me , Clouds on every horizon. Porch thermometer says 2 C high of 7 C forcast by the phone. Still would need the winter riding gear if I go for a ride. Not sure if my body is up to it yet, yesterday got aggravated by the washing machine not spinning,so had to make a holder for the wheels, so it would be level. Not use to 6+ hour getting up and down from the floor.
Enjoy the new to you cats Steve. Thanks Stu for coffee,heal that hand well ( that's an order). Y'all have a great weekend G

Keith, I'm happy to see that Brie trusts you more and more with each passing day. Steve and Brenda, congrats on your new furry family members! They will emerge from their respective hidey-holes...eventually! Lol.

Well, after ice comes snow, it seems, and lots of it. March has always been notorious for delivering a couple of humdinger snowstorms before winter finally takes a hike, and this year is clearly no exception. It snowed all night and though it doesn't seem to be coming down right now (OK, maybe a few flakes), the forecast says the snow will start up again shortly and keep falling until late this afternoon. Since the temps haven't gotten above freezing in a few days, things are still thinly coated with ice so the snow has stuck to all the tree branches and shrubs. Looks quite pretty, actually. The forests and woodlands must look like a winter wonderland right now. Today's high will reach 0°C/32°F, but it's still pretty windy so it'll feel like -8°C/18°F.

And speaking of Canada-to-US conversions, that $1.90 for regular gas Chris referred to is, of course, $1.90 CDN per litre...which translates to $5.32 USD per gallon! Yeesh. :(

Our weeping cherry, always the first of our ornamentals to bloom each spring, is getting close to ready to pop.

Hang in there, Canadians and Norwegians, your time will come eventually.
 
Morning all you cat, dog, coffee and Pepsi lovers! Thanks Stu for the Coop & herring. It certainly seems it got itself into a pickle.

Freezing here, and it snow heartily overnight. I just got in from another hour and a half of blowing snow, and yes the plow came back down just as I finished and buried the driveway end in. Luckily I saw it go up the road so I knew it would be back, and I wasn't going to put the blower away until it made it's final pass. The snow's mostly stopped, but the wind is still up, along with small but still ouchy hail. It may transition to freezing rain later before it eventually stops.

Joys of March.

As for kitties, mine's curled up in her glider rocker beside her perch in the front window, likely dreaming of treats.

Morning Stu & All from mixed clouds & Sun & :wind1:, in Southern Utah!

Currently it is 59F, up from 46F and heading for 70F. The winds are blowing from the SSW @ 7 to 9mph. Later they'll be from the W @ 21 to 33mph.

My #1 son and granddaughter are heading down this way from Kalispell MT. The weather isn't looking to good, mostly winds, but they are getting snow right now. He has a converted, heavy duty ambulance, so hopefully they'll be okay.

I was able to get the basic foundation set for the greenhouse. I only have the four corner piers set, so I still need to put in the others, to keep the 4x4 from warping. I might get some done today, we'll see.

Eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. A Pepsi or two will be had later.

Brenda found two in the bathroom , under /behind the roll out closet. She nabbed one and got scratched for it. The other is still back there, where we can't get to her. That would be Kailua. We're going to wait her out, since we can't get the rolling closet out of it's cubby, there's no way to grab her, and we don't want to terrorize her further.

I just came in from blowing. As soon as I came in the plow went by and filled in the end of the driveway again. This happens so often that I swear that they wait at the end of the street and watch for me to put the blower back in the garage.
 
@Andrew Shadow and @Obo: Ohhhh, I remember it well from when I owned my house. I used to swear I could hear the plow driver chuckling, stopped two street corners away, as he watched me toil to push the last load of snow from my big scoop shovel out of my double-wide driveway (I didn’t own a snowblower). Anybody want to learn how to swear a blue streak in French? 😂
 
My brother lived in Boston. He never owned a snow blower.

After one relatively heavy snowfall, he had just about finished shoveling his driveway when the City plow came along. They must have noted his situation, because they took care NOT to plow a berm across the end of his driveway. A small act of kindness, that he never forgot.
