The hondaline top box on my 07 STeed rattles a little bit when hitting bumps. The hardware appears to be mounted properly and securely and the box slides from side to side like it is supposed to on the mounting plate. I wear ear plugs when riding and cannot hear the rattle but can hear it when just puttering around without a helmet.

Does your top box rattle?

Solution 101:

Apply some 3M velcro to the bottom of the mounting plate near the rear and opposite 3M velcro in same area on the bottom side of your trunk.

You're Welcome....bygdawg

mine does....37000 miles and no problems because of it....

Mine rattles a bit when empty. Normal. Haven't noticed a rattle when loaded up for touring.
If I don't need the storage, the top box comes off for riding local roads (not because of rattle, though).

No, my top box doesn't rattle. Once it has locked on there is absolutely no movement betweenthe box and the mounting plate, and the plate and the bike. The plate requires a vast amount of screws and spacers to fit together. is there a chance that some of these were not fitted?

I did use a bit of Velcro on the inside to stop the Honda carpet from sliding around.

You have to remember that because the mount is meant to slide from side to side there has to be some clearance. When you hit the bumps, the box will make a little noise. With more gear in it you probably won't even notice it. :)

ATTENTION! If the top box is solid, without any side to side movement, it is mounted wrong. :(

I had that problem with my Guvi, but I put an old mouse pad under the box and it's great now. :)

The GIVI mounting plate is notorious for having the little rubber bumpers fall out. If you pull off the top box you will see them. I used to send them out by the dozens to folks on the list.

My Givi doesn't move at all, and I wouldn't want a top box that did, that's why no Honda box.

And you are dreaming.

Every Givi I have ever owned had bounced around Maybe not side to side but they do move. Follow someone with one and you will see. Or follow your bike sometime you will also see it.

The movement is not a bad thing but it is there.

The GIVI on my VFR is pretty solid, but maybe that doesn't count...

Sorry, I must be dreaming  My Givi is solid as a rock, no rattling back there :D

Givi's are great trunks. Real good quality and they mount well. But they all bounce. No they don't rattle, and no they don't make noise or move side to side. But they all bounce and are not "solid as a rock".

Only Chevy trucks can claim that :D ;)

See my post from earlier. Solution = Velcro :) And, I hate to burst some of the bubbles, but mine is rock solid (with the velcro of course). I've never seen one that was rock solid that either didn't use velcro or screws in the back, and I've seen a bunch of 'em.

I still have some around somewhere. I worked for a motorcycle shop that sold Givi top boxes. Send me an address and I'll try to hunt you down a few.

Re: Does your top box rattle?-Missing Bumpers

Here is where they are and what I'm describing.

In the Picture the lower left bumper is missing.
BTW, I found a few sets.

Most dealers who sell the Givi stuff will have or be able to get spare rubber bumpers. They get lost because they stick to the bottom of the trunk and pull out of the mounting plate.

When you get them be sure to use a small bit of Industrial strength superglue (like Loctite 404) to hold them in place.

Once you do that to all 4 of them, you will never lose another one.
