Duel sport tire for gravel hill climbing

I have a very steep gravel hill going to our family cabin. I have an extra wheel and was thinking about getting a duel sport tire for the back to get up and down the hill. Anyone find one that fits well on the ST1300?

If you want something that is a OK on pavement as well:
Dunlop Trailmax Mission - works good on pavement and on gravel. Long lasting as well.
It is a very stiff walled, heavy tire so it should handle the ST's weight OK.
Don't let the tread pattern put you off. It just works. I have one on my Tuareg. Went to Tuktoyuktuk and back. 6,000 miles of pavement and gravel/dirt and I still have quite a bit of tire left. Not great in greasy mud, but then what is?
I was impressed with the pavement performance which was a bonus.

That looks like it might work and not be horrible on the road. I have a DRZ400 but don't like riding it very far and want a way to get the ST up on this hill and back down.
 
I have a Perelli scorpion rally str 120 70 18 that was on the front of my ST1300 when I bought it. Previous owner wanted a tire for the gravel roads he rode on in Tennessee. I went the complete opposite direction and went double dark lol. Any chance your coming to OH SToc?

If it is that steep you might want to consider a more gravel orientated front tire as well if you are going to ride it back down.
 
I have the Dunlop Trailmax Missions on my GSA which is my daily rider, and they are lasting quite well, usually I'm pulling Kaiser in the Bushtec trailer.
About 3 or 4 times they surprised me when on the roads, the rear stepping out unexpectedly while cornering, and i wasn't being a hooligan. Just a nice, quick turn, smooth and easy, and on clean, dry pavement. Didn't think I was pushing speed or lean, but it hasn't happened in a long while.
I have seen several large sport tourers shod with dual sport tires for trips to Alaska, and they were happy with the ride. So it can be done.
 
How steep is this drive? Can you tell us the fall (or rise) per 100' or the angle w/ the horizontal? Just as a comparison, more than a few mowers say not to operate the device across a 15º slope.

I have no idea, but steep enough that I use 4 wheel high to go up it. The DRZ400 does fine with knobby street rires.
 
Remember what goes up must come down. The ST is a heavy bike would hate to pick the beast up on a grade that steep.
 
Motoz Tractionator GPS is available for the rear.
Have yet to try it. Next month.
Reviews say long lasting, rides well on pavement and gravel. Less traction on pavement, take it easy on turns.
I’ve run scorpion str front and rear. Has good traction on pavement, does well on gravel, wears out faster. Mine will be gone in 7 or 8 thousand miles mostly road taking it very easy.

Good news, the trailmax worked perfectly up and down steep grade gravel roads. I was even able to ride out into the woods and check the corn feeder.
