EBC brake pad mode for 2007?

Helmetbox

Hi guys, just purchase some EBC FA261HH brake pads from my local dealer. However, i have some issue fitting them. Apparently the oem brake pads sit nicely but not the EBC, i notice there were some off alignment on the EBC brake pads..

Anyone can advise?

mine is a 2007 model.

Should i force them in??

Typically, the OEMs have been thicker than the EBCs, but recently EBCs have changed to be thicker but that was the rear pads.

Are you talking about the front or rear pads?

There's a post on here somewhere with actual measurements.
The EBC should fit ok. I've never had a problem
Never heard of them being too thick for an st1300 fitment unless I missed a post somewhere?

Push up/forward to seat the front tab keep pressure on it and then up into the caliper.
I usually push the pistons further home than needed just to make sure I have room to work.

02-07
FA261HH front or back

08 and up
FA388HH front
FA261HH back only

02 and up
FA261
/2HH 02-up thicker rear only
8.3 vs 11.5mm thickness

Make sure the forward spring clip and anti rattle clip didn't get displaced.

I never laid an oem over a ebc to look at the plate geometry.
iirc the front tab was different but that photo doesn't look right.
That's just from memory could be fine. hmmm?

The problem I'm having is not the thickness of the brake pad, more on the alignment of the hole for the retainer pin. The retainer pin can be sorted in easier by applying only a little force by pushing the pad down. Whereas the ebc, I will probably need to force them in. Even I try to fit them without the 'spring' (the metal plate behind the pad), it seem that the alignment is off by a bit.

If you take a look at the picture closely, the arm where by the hole for then retainer pin is, is much longer for oem as compared to ebc. That is the problem I'm having.

When I looked at your pictures it was immediately obvious that those are not the same pad, and no matter what you do its not going to fit correctly. Don't have a 1300 so I don't know about that EBC part number, but it would appear that you were given the wrong pad.

Hmm.. But apparently the model that I as give is FA261HH and it's all over the Internet indicated the ebc for st1300 is FA261HH.
Perhaps those that fitted the ebc pads can advice me.

Looking at it again, it appears that even though it is a slightly different shape, it may be possible to rotate the pad just a bit in the caliper to get the hole to align. If you seat the end opposite the hole into its slot, is there enough play available to rotate the hole end enough to line up with the pin?

Yes, I checked after posting and FA261HH appears to be the correct part number, and a picture of one on ebay has the same short arm on the hole end like yours does. So it appears to be the correct pad, it just looks a bit different than the OEM ones. Keep moving it around and you'll probably find it eventually fits.

Anybody have a new EBC pad they can take a photo of?

You may have to dress the front tab a little with a file or wherever it's binding.
But I wouldn't force anything, normal hand pressure should get it in there unless somethings not right.

On my 04 ST I tried EBC pads and tried to get them to work for 3 days (front brakes dragged after installing them). I went back and got the OEM pads and all was well. Igofar will swear by the OEM pads and after reading tons of his brake posts and my own experience, I agree. That experience lead me to stick with the OEM BMW pads for my K1600 which I just changec.

I'm betting you bent the small retaining tabs that hold the pads straight. Ebc also makes different pads for different year st1300's.
As suggested...use oem pads or risk brake system issues...that could not only be costly but risky too. .02

Just replaced the Pads on my 2006 with EBC for the second time. Fitted FA261HH on the front and FA261/2HH on the rear without a issue. FYI: The friction material is about 4.4mm on the FA261HH, and about 6.3mm on the FA261/2HH. Excellent stopping power. I'm doing the Wing next week and I'm going to make a tool to make it easier to push the pistons back in the caliber.

Is the wing a pain to get to the pistons?
I usually just hold the old pads in sans rotor and lever with a flat blade screw driver.

For yutes that prefer where ever honda sources them from, make sure you tell your Honda dealer.
Some will order EBC unless told otherwise.

I've always used a C clamp and a 1" putty knife (steel not plastic). Put the putty knife over the piston(s) and crank it down with the clamp using the back of the caliper for the other surface. On some calipers like the non-ABS ST1100 ones you can cover both pistons with the knife at the same time. On bigger ones it will cover them one at a time.

Okie.. Found out my bike could be a 2008 model instead.. Can anyone tell? Was told that you can see the abs plate to see which year is the bike. My bike color states ST1300A8

My 2008 has the same ABS ring. the pre 2008 had a ring with teeth.

All done.. Brake are crisp sharp now.. One thing I notice is that when I apply the front brake, the rear brake feels harder then just applying rear brake alone. Is it normal?

When you apply front brake the smc puts pressure on the outer pistons on the rear.
Then when you apply back brake with the pedal it advances the center piston which doesn't see any resistance until it hits the pad which is already in firm contact with the rotor.
