A local headline reads: Zero DS sets world record for range... 436,5km/271miles on one charge...

Right...

The test was performed at nighttime (low/no other traffic) on secondary roads and at an "...ideal speed of 52kph/32mph..."
With a short stature, skinny rider and no luggage at all...
Frankly, performance data of a moped, grandpa's 50cc Puch Maxi would have delivered that with ease...

Now lets look at the costs:
That Zero DS comes at € 17,810,-
The optional power tank, which was used during this "record run": another € 4,045,-...
Total € 21,855,- ....

How much was my ST again? 🤔

Impressive? Yes. Would I pull the trigger? No. Good for them. Obviously catered to eke max distance, but hopefully those in the know like us can read between the lines.

I do feel sorry for that poor sap who had to ride that turd for the *breaks out calculator* 436.5/52=8.39 straight hours it took to break that record.

Like anything else there are few things that one fits all without some compromise. We like what we like and want what we want. When the first motorcycles sprang from Zeus' forehead none of them were GoldWings or STs or BMW 1600s. The price will come down eventually. eV bikes still won't be for everyone. But choice is good. Right now I might consider a 650/750 eV equivalent given the price of gas. Or I'll just wait till it comes down to the promised $2gal.

Fortunately I don't have anything that needs diesel. At Costco today gas was $5.70/gal and $40 for not quite half a tank (I was topping off). I'm not running out and buying one but the idea of getting on an eV and running some errands does appeal to me. I don't care if it appeals to no one else. Choice is good. Viability is in the eye and walled of the buyer. We make our own choices for what suits and pleases us not others.
