Greetings All. Whenever winter comes on and the sun sits lower in the sky, I'm often blinded by it, not only when riding directly into it, but also when the sun sits on my left or right side. The sun filtering through trees as I ride creates a non-stop flashing from the sunward side that diminishes my vision looking forward. I have a sun visor built into my helmet, and I've considered using black electrical tape on portions of the sides of it it to block out the sun coming in from either side. I know this would reduce my peripheral vision somewhat but I still think it's safer than being partially blinded while I ride. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for a better material then black electrical tape, or other suggestions for how to deal with this issue. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I use a "sun-blocker" made from a 1 1/4 by 12 inch strip off a roll of limo-window tint film (from WalMart). A roll costs about the same as one sun-blocker, so you can make spares, or give a bunch away to your friends. (my helmet also has a built in sun visor)

I use something similar to what Fred D suggested. It's called Speed Tint. It is actually more helpful when the sun is higher than lower but I would still recommend it. During this time of year, for me to get it lined up with the sun, I usually have to tilt my helmet down. It's better than nothing for those particularly bright afternoons.

A strip of electrical tape...really. Stays stuck, comes off easily, cheap, effective.

Sun low on the horizon is the worst. But it does remind me to clean my face shield and windscreen.

"Mar the faceshield" ??? Why I would take my electrical tape off.... is beyond me?? Mine is mounted on the inside and runs clear across the shield, side to side.... tapering off into the side.

I LOVE that tape there. I quick touch with my thumb moves the taped area right where I need it. Even more blinding is when you come around a corner with your wind screen up somewhat and its not perfectly clean...boy that sun makes it seem like yer looking through a film of milk. YIPES ! But that thin line of tape makes all the diff in the world. Never ride without it.

Not quite picturing where you guys put the tape. and do you just stick a strip on for those short periods when the sun is 'right there'.

I use the 1/2" to 3/4 inch width, and tape the lower leading edge of the shield...right up to the bottom of the edge. (when shut its by your chin)

Mine stays there year round and never have a need to remove it.

+1 on a strip of electrical tape. It runs along the top of shield...works great!! Never have to take it off and does not block view.

Sorry......Maybe I should do both. I ride with the visor up a LOT of the time. (bike screen up)... (I know..taint that safe) so with the helmet screen up ...I adjust the tip where the tape is ...to cover the sun.
I got so used to doing that that the visor gets adjusted quite often .....except when I drop the bike screen to ride with my helmet visor down.

+5 on one or two strips of electrical tape across the top of the shield. Discovered this trick when commuting into the sun (both ways usually) and now never take it off. Cheap and effective - could this really involve motorcycling accessories???
