Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Just ordered the FCE for my 06. Hope this thing works as advertised. I ride in a alot of on/off traffic here in Northern VA/DC and also have to navigate underground garages - hoping this smooths out the throttle control in those situations.

Please post your results when you get it installed.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I have ordered a unit, but have not installed it yet. I am really interested in the low speed smoothness too. I have had the fuel pressure regulator fix in place for several years on my 2005 and would rather not undo that.

It will take a bit of courage to start snipping those computer wires to install the eliminator.:

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Finally installed mine last night. It took about 2 1/2 hours without rushing. Only have ridden to work today and it seems smoother and when you run over a uneven surface it is smoother. What I mean by that is: a bump or etc, that you run over which might normally cause your throttle hand to move quickly no longer causes that surge. Will need to give it a real good test; I can tell a difference right off.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I am going to add this one to my list next week. I have K&N filter and a 58* FPR (not yet installed).
I now have no choice. Yesterday I was reading over the thread again and my girl walked in and ask what I was reading. Explained it may help with the low speed surge. She said nothing, walked out of the room, came back and handed me a 20 and said "let me help pay for it". Nuf said!

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Installed one last night and this morning on my 2005.

Good news is that it runs and I have the tail light, rack, seat ect back on. I have to wait for it to quit raining before a real test drive and will post my personal review when I have.

Bad news is that I was so concerned about screwing up the electronics during the install that I neglected the "mechanics". I forgot to photograph or diagram exactly how the ECU and ABS modules were originally placed. I believe that I have them in the correct orientation to each other (this much I can tell from the service manual) but am not comfortable that they are placed back into the frame area correctly. The tail section and seat do "button up" without binding anywhere, and it looks fine from the outside.

I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me to a picture that illustrates how this assembly should look when completely installed, including the routing of the wiring harnesses. What I have found in the service manual is a small black and white photo, that really does not give enough detail.

Thanks:bow1:

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

If you insist on doing this mod, why can't you make some "Y" adapters to plug them into?
This could go between the pins in the connector and the bullet terminals in the FCE harness. Would cost you just to buy the extra connectors.
Then, you would have to cut nothing.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Marcel,

Thanks for the pictures. I really appreciate the help on this and should be able get the things lined up and back and stuffed into the right places.

The bike is running like a top with the eliminator. I can really tell the difference at low speed. I am going to need to relearn how to ride the ST without constantly feathering the clutch to keep it smooth! I didn't realize the changes in riding style I have made over time to work around the jerkiness. :D

+1 on the riding style. Much better.

youre welcome ;-) :)

about the driving experience, exactly the same as you described! :):)
very happy about it. :bow1:

now I just want to know how it works, its connected to the 02 sensors, clutch en sidestand switches.

but anyways, its great!

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I placed my order with Ivan last week. The FCE should be here this week. I have no problem with jerky throttle. I read earlier on this thread someone found his bike felt cooler at low speed after the installation. My hope is to have the same result.

I am not too sure how to remove the tail light and rear fairing. I don't have a service manual. Anyone can point me to a down load or a procedure?
Thank you in advance.

Remove the seats, saddlebags, luggage rack (hex socket bolts from the top), then the fender and tail light( JIC cross points screws, 4 I think) . Unplug the tail light/tag light connectors.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Installed the unit as instructed. Test rode the bike with very positive results. This is not a earth changing thing but I would do it ago for sure. There are a couple of others in my group that are just waiting on the results. Will be riding my bike before ordering. I really like the smoothness and notice it on every shift. ic

Ordered one and hope to install next week....and give reviews from a Canadian perspective, eh...:04biker:

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Didn't mean to steal your thunder, Carsonbuddy. I believe I have the first Canadian perspective on this product. My friend and I installed the FCE on my ST1300 yesterday. It took two hours, we took our time. We had to redo a couple of the crimps, part of the learning curve. We followed Ivan's detail instructions to the tee, and the members photographs on page 8 of the thread added further clarity.

I took it out in the rain to give a a short test anyways. Fantastic, the throttle was super precise and civilized. instantly, I had more confidence on the wet road than before.

Today, the weather turned nice, we went for a 9 hour ride (325 miles). We went through freeway, twisties, and city traffic.

At freeway speed, the throttle was turbine smooth, noticeably smoother than before. It seems like I could just dial up the exact amount of power at any time.

In the twisties, the smoothness tranlated in to earlier roll on power. the power came on gentle and steay without delay. Sudden off throttle does not feel abrupt even at second gear.

In the stop and go city traffic, I could drive the bike a lot smoother with much less clutch work. I used to notice a flat spot in the power curve in between 4K to 5K RPM in first gear. That is gone now. How ever, I did find there were some peculiarities if I kept the bike in first gear at quarter throttle for too long before rolling on hard. The bike did not respond with power like the way it should. I cannot quite explain it. It is nothing to be alarmed about, I am sure I'll get use to it with a few more rides in the city.

Overall, I highly recommend this farkle. It puts a new meaning to the word smooth.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Ok here is the review from Western Canada, eh.
First Farkle I did myself as bike was well equipped when I bought it. So with manuals in hand, pictures from this thread, and instructions I started to take stuff off to install. Took about 3 hours total time as I was new to the removing items from the back of the bike. Also spent some time repairing a couple of other connections that appeared a little loose.
Easy installation. Instructions as well as the guides and pictures here make a very easy installation. Wires are well marked and suprising easy to cut.....and the crimping and matching wasn't really an issue. Putting wires back took some time but finally got a bigger hammer to force into that opening.
Everything went back in place and then the moment to see if the connections were correct. Turned the key, pushed the starter button and all I got was a click...(ya the kill switch was on).

Tried again is started and heart slid back into place.

Went for a quick tour around the subdivision and I really noticed the difference in the throttle response. I have only been riding the ST since last August - less the winter months - and never did like the throttle repsonse and jerkiness over bumps. Got used to paying attention in those situations but this makes a world of diffence. If tomorrow clears up will be able to go for long ride in traffic and on the hwy to test the difference.

I am glad I put this in and as ST460 stated it makes my confidence go up. So I raise a glass to reading good information in this forum and then following the guidance and asistance by others to add something to the ST that will make a difference in my riding enjoyment. :04biker:

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I finally got to put a couple hundred miles on mine.

I have to say the bike overall is just more smoother with regard to throttle control.

I had no idea that my body was so used to the abruptness, once installed, I was trying to anticipate it and it was no longer there... strange at first...

You can actually ride the bike slowly in 1st gear whereas before, I'd get to 2nd gear for slow stuff.

Passing is smoother because after you pass a car and ease off on the throttle, again, the abruptness is gone... very nice.

I haven't had any opportunity to get into any twisties yet but I have to believe this will be a great benefit to making those high-rpm maneuvers much smoother.

I was skeptical... but, I have to give this product a thumbs up.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I just returned from a 5-day trip riding around the Torrey Utah area and earlier in the spring installed the TT fuel pressure regulator. I was HOPING :please1: that the surging would be gone but with the lower fuel pressure now, the surging showed up in more throttle positions than ever before. Ran especially rough in the higher altitudes and the bike even stalled once in Durango on the way home. I was rolling through a curve and was adding throttle but nothing. Fast thinking, clutch in, thumb the starter, and we're off again. Argh...

It was this trip that totally convinced me to order this fuel cut eliminator, which I did a few days ago and can't wait to install and check it out. Will also provide a review as others have done. Most of my riding is between 5,000 and 12,000 ft so will see how this device works at altitude as well.
