Maybe simply monitoring the power source(s) would be sufficient. If one shuts off and the problem starts we'd know the cause?? Just add some LEDs and see if one goes out during failure mode.....
Revisiting the G/R and G/W wires (thanks Scooter). Looks like they are all at ground when the bike is in run mode. So my assumption there is a bias network in the FCE may be faultering. Might be a lot simpler than that...
