Fender Extender ABS Glue ???

All,

This is going to those who have installed the MCL Fender Extender and used ABS glue to attach it. Instructions state use ABS Glue (prefer 55y black). Ok, Go to Home Depot, they have a PVC/ABS transition glue (For glueing the 2 different plastics together) and the rest are for PVC. Go to Advanced, thinking , ok new car bumpers are ABS.. NO good nothing. Go to auto paint supply shop , they have a plastic repair glue but doesn't state anywhere for ABS , and a actual ABS glue that needs a special gun to use . So can someone tell me what ABS glue did you use and where did you get it ..

My fender extender came with screws.. Not gonna do that. I was thinking of getting some of that really gnarly 3M velcro (same as the stuff that holds the headlight protector on) to hold mine on. We shall see.
 
I have the Fender Extender from MCL and used the Home Depot PVC glue with the blue label. It was black in color and worked well. Here is a link to Oatey's website with a picture of the product.

One other thing. In regards to removal, put tape in the area of the bolts that are in the rear of the forks. When you remove the fender if there is not tape there you will scratch the fender up a bit with no tape. Unless you look hard you won't see the scratches, but I know they're there, so it irritates me a bit.
 
I used the clear marine stuff called "Goop" I figured it would be exposed to moisture, no black stuff to worry about getting squeezed out onto the paint. Three plus years and it's still stuck on the fender. Worked for me! Cheers Marty

That's ABS glue, not PVC. The two are not interchangeable and PVC glue won't work very well. To the O.P. Sounds like the Home Depot you went to was just out of ABS glue. I stuck mine on with ABS glue 10s of thousands of miles ago and it's still solid. Make sure to sand off the paint on the inside of the fender where the extender goes.

My error on the abbreviations. Yes it is ABS glue that I used, as per the instructions from the manufacturer. Thanks for clarifying that.
 
I installed one on my bike with RTV (silicone) and left it clamped in place overnight. It's been there a year and I doubt it will ever come off.

Well I got one of Home Depot guys in that department to look ..knotta .. he stated they were moving away from ABS and stocking more PVC. Not sure if building codes have changed here , but I didn't see any ABS piping now that I think about it. I'll try a different Home Depot or Lowes close to where I work ... Thanks for all the replies ..
 
Well I hit up another Home Depot near my work .. same issue , no ABS glue , all PVC... went across the street to Lowes, they had it, but no ABS piping ... go figure ... So thanks for the help ..
 
It may fall off tomorrow, but for the last 50,000 miles, my fenda-extenda, and now my stuff-stopper have been, and are held on by Scotch's (double sided) exterior foam tape.

That tape will hold well for a long time. They use it to hold badging and trim to the exterior of cars. I was concerned that it would be thick enough to prevent a nice flush fit, so when with the ABS glue instead.

A number of us have cut out a mud-flap from whatever flexible rubber material and affixed it to the rear fender, in front of the wheel, to reduce the amount of crud that can collect on the swing-arm (again, in my case, attached it using the exterior mounting tape)

Thank you sir I was looking at that crud and knowing I will not clean it often this should be done
