My ST1300 was registered in 05, but over the last couple of years I have noticed some flaking of the final drive paintwork and more recently small areas of the engine. Living in Scotland and the often dismal weather has surely helped play a part in this. Over the last couple of months, I have noticed that the paintwork around the R.H.S Cylinder head has started to peel?....but none of this on the L.H.S. This is at the front of the cylinder head...but is happening on both the aluminium type paintwork and also the darker gun metal type paintwork close to the plastic cylinder covers. Is this a common enough occurrence, and if so what repair type paint was used to restore these areas back to normal. Obviously High temperature paint will be required.....similiar to the "Car plan" aluminium paint used for the final drive.

My 04 is the same. Used smoothrite spray for the final drive and for the front clutch cover. Used this also on the area of the cylinder head below the rocker cover, it hasnt been affected by the heat yet. The graphite black is a problem as I have not found any high temp stuff like it. Next time Ive got the cover off I may take it to halfords to see whats the closest normal paint. Its a pain!!!
