Helmets Flip Face Helmet - Open or Closed

I'm curious about your riding habits.

I have a Nolan N-102 Flip Face helmet and the manual that came with it (yes, I read it!) says "Do not ride the motorcycle with the chin guard open. The chin guard MUST be closed and fastened while riding the motorcycle."

I always ride with the chin guard closed as per the above. Even without the warning it seems that I would lose most of the benefit of a full-face helmet if I didn't close and latch the chin guard in place.

I find I get enough air flow when I need it through the chin vents, the top vent, and the visor.

Yet I see pictures of people riding with the chin guard open. People comment here about riding with the chin guard open.

Are helmets other than Nolans OK to ride with the chin guard open?

Or did nobody else read the manual?
 
IMHO That kinda falls in the category of those riders that strap a helmet to the bike instead of their head...TO each his own....:crackup

I want the new Shark Evoline...so I can drink without having to remove the helmet....the Shark advertises as aerodynamic with the chin bar open...I wonder if it still has that warning....hmm..
 
I'm another who keeps it closed while moving.
Opening it kind of defeats the purpose of having a Full Face helmet, even if it's modular.
I can use my camelback while moving by threading the hose through the visor, and this year it was hot enough that I'd open it while stopped.

That's just me, though.

I'm with Raven, closed while moving, open while stopped at lights.
 
I'm doing the research and earlie someone shared the "Shark Evoline" Youtube. I do like the idea that the FLIP FACE is going to protect me better if it's closed. I concurr, closed while in motion.
 
When I had a flip-face helmet (since retired) the only time I opened it was when it was really HOT and I camer into a town. Figured falling off of the bike from heat-prostration was worth the extra risk.
 
Mine is open only when stopped otherwise I would have bought a half or three-quarter helmet. I do like the open before a sneeze bit. I suppose you have to be fast. I had an uncle that used to say "you gotta be quick but you gotta be right" - maybe that was what he was talking about, who knows?
