Front/Rear Tyre psi

ST1p

Hi,

Can someone confirm for me what's the psi for front and rear tyres on the 99 ST1100 ABS/TCS model.

Also, can anyone recommend a rear suspension spring. I'm looking at an Ohlin.

Finally, how often (in mileage terms) should I change my engine oil?

Thanks.

I have a 98 and run 42 front and rear, but then again I'm 300 lbs.

What kind of oil you running? I run full synthetic and change oil AND filter every 5,000 miles.

I have a Progressive rear shock.

Tire pressure depends on the brand. I have Dunlop D205 and it lists 36 front and 42 rear on their website. I run 39 front, and 42 rear. Look at the manufacturers website , that may help.

I use the stock shock and spring, so no help there.

The oil change interval should be listed in the owner's manual, but I believe it's a little on the long side. I change every 5-6K.

I have a 1998 ST with the ME 880 I run 40 front and 46 rear tire pressure. Werks rear shock built to my weight.
Honda filter Mobil 1 15/50 oil and change every 8,000 miles.

The factory recommendation is 42 / 36 r / f.

But as others have suggested, it can vary with the rider and the tire. What are you running? I ran my Avon's a couple of PSI over those above.

Pretty much everyone who used the Storms on 1100's agreed they felt better with higher pressure than the Honda recommendation. I'd say opinions varied from my 2 psi over to as much as 5 psi. A couple of things to consider:

While inflation is measured cold, the max pressure molded into the sidewall is just that, Maximum, even when hot. So you don't want to push the cold pressure too close to maximum.

While some people like a lot of extra pressure, I felt it made the tires steer too quickly. Then again, I'm fairly light, so higher pressure might be ok if you're a big guy.

I say try the tires at about +2, then again at +4, and see if you can tell the difference, and which you like better.

Finally, an old rule of thumb is that tires are inflated properly when they gain about 10% in measured psi between cold and hot. So check your cold pressure, go out on a highway ride, then check pressures right away. I wouldn't worry too much about being right at 10%, but if the pressure rise is significantly higher, your starting pressure was too low. And vice versa.

HTH,

I run an ST1100A 2000 model ex plod.

Manufacturers spec;
120/70 R 18 Fr 36lbs/psi
160/70 R 17 Rr 42lbs/psi

I run my front at around 40lbs/psi to alleviate a developing poor wear pattern.

Oil, depends on what you use but I am using Halfords semi-synthetic and will change it either when it looks like it needs changing or at around 6-8000 miles.

With regard to the rear spring, mine has the Police Spec rear shock which was replaced not long before I got it so should be good for 25,000 miles or more.
