When it comes to office space, well I have to brag… my team had a private, badged space. 5 of us, floor to ceiling walls that overlooked the St John’s river. Sunrises every morning, absolutely stunning. 3rd flr. Prior to that my office, I was in for over 15 yrs, same desk, same river different view.
Mind you, I-95 runs thru Jacksonville and crosses the river, we were next door. I watched, for about 5 years. A totally new major interstate being built and the old one demolished, right in our backyard. The things we saw, man. So in that respect, we had it made, and I guess there were some nice things I remember.

I appreciate all the kind thoughts and support. I'm an on-site contractor for the US Gov't, meaning I work in their provided spaces. I work within what they give me, so I am used to those changes. As noted, this time was just the abruptness of the news. Me reading the tea leaves tells me there's a serious disconnect and/or disrespect from upper mgmt about our group, arguably one of the most important in this branch...I'll not go further except the entire branch cannot do their main job without the eqpt we design and oversee. That's what angers me, not the move itself but everyone else already walking by our spaces like vultures hoping we'd be gone, counting seats, putting names down where ours were. Rude.

I've said too much and didn't mean for it to be the topic of the day. Retirement? I'm more than a decade away... But a fantasy to me. Enjoy it for me. Take care!

That was me for about 19 of my 33 years. I get it completely. It was better when I was working in corporate space.

In my case, the spaces we were allocated turned out to be the ones no govvies wanted so we didn't have to put up with that sort of thing, but I saw plenty of it.

Since we were in the spaces deemed undesirable we were pretty much left alone, which suited me fine except for the period of time we were in a building that was about to be stripped to the steel skeleton and completely rebuilt, so there was virtually no heat in the winter. It was a sad commentary that we all ADDED layers when entering the building... but we were left to do our jobs in peace.
