I met George virtually back in the rec.motorcycles days, before the emailer liST even existed. That would have been around 1995. Met him in person at the first WeSTOC at Park City UT in ‘96. Rode many times with him at CreSTOC, Christmas STOCing, CalSTOC and many WeSTOC events. He was one of a kind and one colorful character. The ST community and the world is a little bit less interesting without George in it. Godspeed and GO RIDE George!! You will be missed.

George was a friend to everyone he met and truly lived life to its fullest, I feel grateful to have had the privilege to have shared some moments in time with him. Condolences to the family and to his ST friends.

Vacation con Dios, George. The good thing is he now gets to GO RIDE with Derek!
I'm very sad to hear this. Back in 94 I bought my first ST and signed up for the newsletter. I was catching up on back issues with George and Derek front and center in those issues and thought, 'I have to meet these guys.' Sadly I never got to meet Derek but I have had many pleasant encounters with George. Godspeed George. Have fun riding with Derek again.

George stopped in and bought my one wheel trailer, we spent the night building the hitch for his bike to pull it. A good memory!

His passing was sudden and completely unexpected. I know there are many here who counted him as a friend, and he will be missed.
I don't have a solid date yet, but I am looking at having an impromptu MLR/memorial get together for him in either the first or 2nd weekend of May. I will post more when I have a better idea.

Adam, we've never met but I want you to know your pain at a sudden, unexpected loss is something I share. You're not alone, though one of the cornerstones of your life has abruptly gone.
I met your Dad a decade ago, at my first-and-only MLR. As one of the rare and vanishing Original STOC Members, he had my immediate respect.
R.I.P, STOC #004, and ride on forever.
Had the pleasure of George’s company for a couple nights at my house a few years ago. After retrieving him and his bike from the hospital. Enjoyed getting to know him a bit after many years of reading his posts, advice and adventures. Very sorry to hear this sad and surprising news Adam.

I've met George a few times at OHSTOC and ONSTOC over the years.
He was a hard core and committed long distance rider and always seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.

A little Early history lesson.

Our mail list was just that, a simple email with everyones email address appended to the recipient header. Derek mailed out the STUFF newsletter electronically. Most of the newsletters were excerpts from the months collection of emails Derek received concerning products members of the list had bought or tried that were used or related to the ST1100.
At that time, most of the people on the email list were DoD members (Dennizens of Doom). The DoD is mostly related to the Usenet news group REC.MOTORCYCLES. And so, in true DoD fashion, the STOC was formed, although there is no connection between the DoD and the STOC, or the ST Newsletter published in Houston, Texas.
The application for a STOC number was a simple, funny idea to poke fun at the sport bike side of the ST yet, providing our members their own way of recognizing others that had the same interest in ST1100’s by including their STOC number at the bottom of each email they sent.
After Derek’s untimely death, Jim Alexander took over the task of compiling the monthly STUFF newsletters and continued until his transfer to another job outside the USA. Derek’s father, George Catt then took up the task of publishing the STUFF. All the while, the STOC list of members was growing.
The most significant improvement for the STOC members was the creation of the WEB page by Michael Galassi. The Internet had finally come of age and it was becoming easier for people to retrieve information. Michael did an excellent job of collecting everything that had transpired in the past and designed and maintains the WEB page for us.
Another significant improvement for the STOC members was the creation of a “list processor” where any one member could email his/her questions or comments to the entire list of people on the list with only a single message. We thank Mike Morrison for this improvement.
If you search the Internet using Yahoo for motorcycles, you’ll find the STOC WEB page listed… We’re famous.
The December 1995 Motorcycle Consumer News (MCN) reader survey (page 36) form lists the STOC as one of the choices for current motorcycle organizations of which you may be a member.
I can think of no greater tribute to those who have been involved in the making of the STOC than to see the “organization” recognized in a national motorcycle publication.
I know Derek Catt is smiling down at us for our accomplishment.

I really don't remember when I first met George. Maybe WISTOC 1 or 2. He left an impression on you. Back then he rode and rode and rode.
He attended many of the events in Spring Green that I hosted and still do host.

George was a great guy who taught me how to stealth camp. We rode a lot of miles together back and forth across the US. I will truly miss him!!
