George Catt

Sorry to be late replying too this thread, but I came over to France last week for my first visit of the year and my laptop has being playing up. Evidently there have been some site issues too.
RIP George and my condolences to his family and many friends on this site.

IIRC I first met George at the 2008 MLR, and saw him there numerous times. He also attended OH-STOC a couple of times, too. He had an infectious smile, and an attention-grabbing whistle! I always enjoyed our times together.

Ride on, my friend...

Here's a few pics of George at OH-STOC 2013.

So strange - last week I was thinking that I had not seen George posting anything for a long time. I was wondering how he was doing. Ride-on George. I only met you once - a true long distance rider.

That would be classic George. We were riding one time up in Colorado and he stopped beside the road to work on a carburetor. Always a fun time riding with George. I'll sure miss him.

I remember his method for creating a small, weather-resistent, inexpensive temporary sleeping shelter.

If you can find a pavilion that you can get your motorcycle under, great. If not, an unobtrusive corner of a parking lot will do.

Fold an 8 x 10 plastic sheet in half to make it 8 x 5.

Park motorcycle on edges of sheet, parallel to and away from folded side, with kickstand on the pavement and tires a few inches onto the plastic. A 700 pound motorcycle makes a fine deadweight to secure the plastic.

Fold 12-24" of one end of the "tube" under and secure with relatively heavy items as deadweights. Helmet, dismounted panniers or top box, etc.

Install bedding from open end.

Insert tired rider. Sleep well. In case of rain, scootch down into the tube and fold open end under to prevent water entry.

Packing up is fast and easy.

Rest in peace George. I'll always remember the first time we met at Terry's farm. You were so welcoming. I talked to you at many events and loved your stories!!!
Ride on in Heaven George!!!👍🏍️
