Any one had a Givi key get stuck in the lock?
I will turn to lock and unlock (I'm *really* thankful for that! My laptop and school books were in it!); but, it can not be removed.

Before I take it to a locksmith I thought I'd ask...

Thanks,
Mark

I've had the Givi keys get hard to turn........try running some light oil in the lock cylinder next to the key. I use DriSlide on my Givi bags/keys. I do know that Givi keys are pretty soft and will break if you try to force them.

Drislide... I'll go get some.
I'm good at *not* forcing now... I have sheared more than my share of nuts/bolts/studs...

Try pushing down on the box top it may be pushing against the release catch for the box it's a mono key problem I have had.
Hope this helps matey

Mark: I've had that problem with both my old GIVI and a newer one. Snapped off the key in the old one, so I went to Lowes and had a new one made. It was much better than the stock key which, as others have noted, is far too soft and flimsy.

On the new box, I often have to carefully wiggle the key for a while to get it to work. Even then, it takes a while and can give you a good scare if you are away from home and need something that's locked inside.

I went and pushed down; no luck.
I couldn't find drislide... I'll try the ACE hardware near my place in Tucson later today.

I did note the key doesn't look like it is coming back to vertical... I think it might take a trip to the locksmith...

I'm really glad that the problem occured at home where I just set the top-box aside and grabbed the other one... rather than at school after getting the box loaded with the gear I store there all day!

Most bicycle shops have it, too. Ask for Dri-Slide Bike Aid. You want the stuff in the bottle with the needle applicator, not the aerosol can.

Mark, I expect you tried this, but have you tried pushing down on the lid while fiddling with the key? I once had some trouble removing the key on my E52 when I crammed a bunch of stuff into the case. The stuff inside seemed to put pressure on the latch and lock. A firm push down solved it.

There is a little confusion on Givi locks now; they have 2 configurations which both use one key. We have both types...

The one I believe is older has a latch/lever that sometimes can have too much pressure at the top of the latch: pressing down on the lid of this type frees it up.
The newer one does not use the same latch/lever: the handle on this type pops out when you turn the key half way.

I just ordered the givi lockset and I'll post some pictures taken when I'm switching the broken lockset out.

Thanks for all the help.
Mark

Update.

The 1st 3 are the new type monokey latch and lock.

The 4th and 5th are, what I guess, to be the old style.

The 6th is what you get from twisted throttle.

1st and 2nd are shots of the new versions lock area from inside.
3rd and 4th are what I found when I took out the 4 screws.
5th is what the mechanism looks like without the part in the 4th.
And the 6th is what happens when you take it apart and put it back together... DOH!

So I don't know where the broken part (3rd shot) goes or what it does; but, it must have been stuck in the lock mechanism 'cuz the old keep works fine...
$22 bucks and I *might* not need the new key/lockset at all...

Sigh... :)
