Boots good motorcycle boots?

This thread got me looking for the Redwing Harness boots that my brother turned me onto just over 2 years ago. When I had my accident, my right boot was cut pretty deep and I was glad I had heavy leather boots on. I glued up the cut and polished over the cut since I wasn't ready to replace them just yet since they were less then 5 months old when I had the accident.

Before this thread I haven't been too concerned about them, but I was going to suggest them, so I started looking out at the internet for a pair, only to find that they have been discontinued! :22yikes:

I just found a pair my size and ordered them since I figured in a month or two when I was getting ready to order a new pair, they would be gone! :o4:

And by the way, I have been wearing Harness boots for riding since 1971, when I started riding.
 
I have been calling the local stores with little luck one place has 1st gear boots I may tr out another has alpinestar I found a place that has tour master but not my size not much out there to try on in the area as was stated earlier.

These felt great right out of the box. I wear them to work and have taken several hikes wearing these boots. They are waterproof so far.
 
The Sidi/On Road boots are 14" tall <too tall for me>, the Tourmaster Solution boots are 10"-11"; I like them very much. I have a pr. of Double H harness boots<square toe>, they're cool looking and comfortable, but not waterproof and I don't think they offer as much protection as the Tourmaster. Don't wear tennis shoes, after riding without a helmet it's the next most dangerous move a rider can make.
 
I wear 8" work boots I can handle 10" or 11" maybe more than that would be tough to get used to I think. What about the lower cut boots I see 6" would they offer plenty
of safety also

Then maybe your Harness boots weren't made for a motorcycle...:o4:

The Vega "Merge" boots are awesome. Between $69.99-$79.99 Best buy anywhere. Almost any 'on-line' Vendor has them. Up to size 13 Dennis Kirk and others did have them.......
 
I have the Irish Setter 855 and LOVE them! I bought them from the RedWing Shoe Store for $180 with a coupon/discount. ( I bought two pairs of shoes that day)
Kangaroo hide, waterproof, warm, zippered, and all day comfortable.
I am a school teacher and I am on my feet all day long. I wear these every time I ride my bike and usually just go ahead and wear them all day. I don't think I'd wear them hiking because they are not as snug as I'd like hiking boots, but I feel very safe and secure on the bike and they pass for shoes when I wear dockers to school. Obviously, they are not dress shoes, but they are the best multifunction boots I have ever bought and I will buy again (if these ever wear out). mine have 2 years on them and they could pass for new with a polish. The soles seem like they will go forever, as they have no detectable wear yet.
 
I tried on a pair of tourmasters and a pair of alpinestars today the tourmasters were a size to big but all they had the alpinestars were the rite size and felt very good they were a 2" lower cut than the tourmasters which I liked ,the tourmasters were kind hard getting my foot in even being to big.

Well, I figured correctly! I got an email from them last night that they were out of stock on my size, so I cancelled my order and found yet another place that had them "in Stock"...we'll see when they ship them! :o:
 
I did quite a bit of research and decided on Sidi boots for their reviews and personal satisfaction of some of the guys that I ride with. It's really hard to shell out so much coin for boots but my feet are as important to me and my business as is my head. Good protective gear is a one-time-pay life insurance policy as I see it. It will last for many years and provide me with the protection I need to avoid injuries.

It boiled down to the Adventure Rain or On Road models. While I preferred the Adventure Rains, they would not fit me without pain, even on a larger size. The On Roads fit tightly on my standard 44 size and the 45's were a little loose. I purchased the 45's and plan on inserting insoles to tighten them up if required. I wore them on the ride back home from Grass Roots BMW and I was very comfortable. I'm looking forward to getting these broken in.

It comes down to the usual....you get what you pay for. These don't have thin leather like the cheaper boots I looked at. They are well made and tall, very tall but very comfortable. No more wet feet. Guaranteed. And best of all, I got 15% off of list price - just under 3 bills with tax and no worries about return postage for an ill fit. Some things are just better purchased in person rather than via online.

I have a pair of Irish Setter Snake Boots I wear on my ATV and in the woods, they don't have the protection or ankle support for a on road crash . They may protect from road rash but they are not designed for impact. Hence, many broke foot and angle bones.. :( . check out alpinestar, I have a pair and they are very comfortable. On another thread review I actual have worked in them and they felt fine. Check Ebay, you can get a used pair worn x1 or twice at about half the new price. A lot of wanna be superbikers get them wear them a couple of time and sell their bike .. Just my 2 cents.

I was going to suggest dedicated motorcycling boots. I spent years wearing some sort of combat/hiking boot and didn't know what I was missing until I went to dedicated riding boots (Aerostich Combat Touring).

However, you mentioned that they have to be comfortable on and off the bike. Riding boots tend to lose out a bit in the off-bike part - although some are better than others. However, they're far better on the bike. The thicker leathers of riding boots are warmer and drier - as well as more protective.

I wore my Aerostich Combat Lites for a week or so to help break them in and they aren't all that bad. I certainly wouldn't want to go jogging in them, but I wasn't hating myself at the end of the day, even after walking through the grocery store for an hour and a half! I would totally agree with your overall assessment though, a good riding boot can't really be a comfortable walking around shoe and still provide the protection it should when you are riding.

The Combat Lites (as will the SIDIs - nice boots, I almost got those) just keep getting better and better. I attached a pic of my Combat Lites high atop Mt Ranier. ;) The only real factor of why I didn't :D"summit":o: that day was I shoulda left the 16 ton :weights1: leather overpants on the bike. Didn't realize I was gonna get into it. The boots, however, were great - at least they weren't a problem - for hiking.

Have used a pair of Oxtar Infinity boots for years. Buying another pair when these wear out. Lois uses Oxtar Matrix boots. They are nice boots too.

Mine were that way too. After a couple weeks of using them the broke in though and are much easier to get on and off.
