Great sounding bikes

Ok, you guys are forcing me to come up with a few of my own.

One of my faves is the Yamaha MT-01, a 1670cc V-twin.

Not hard to pick it out in a group of race bikes...


The stock exhaust sounds great and a set of Akrapovic's sounds even nicer.
 
I loved the way my Wing sounded with the slipons I picked up from Mellow. It screamed Porsche when you wound it up! My 09 Kawasaki Concours w/ the Two Brothers CF pipe sounded absolutely amazing in the upper RPM's... it howled, gurgled, and had a nice decel pop!

My 21 HD Street Glide Special takes the cake! I put on TAB's BAM Sticks w/ Zombie baffles to give it a nice sound... now have DK Performance Thunder Torque inserts to give it a deeper rumble. It's not obnoxiously loud unless I get on it, but has that nice American V8 deepness I was looking for.
 
I have a 1986 Honda VFR 700, I really like the sound of the gear driven cams. I recently saw a yellow 2001 Honda VFR 800 for sale that looks like it needs to be re-homed, to my garage.

I had a 1986 VFR 700 I bought new as a leftover in '87. Amazing bike for it's day ! The only thing I HATED about that bike was the stupid white wheels ! I would spend a couple hours making that bike look showroom new, lube the chain, and the rear wheel would be trashed 50 yards from my driveway.

However, I have said my entire life a Harley Electa Glide/Road King with OEM exhaust is the best sounding motorcycle ever made. Old BMW airheads are a close 2nd.
 
As you can guess, I'm a big fan of those Ducatis. For me the 750GT with the factory Conti exhausts still have best ever sound. About the same volume as the SS but a couple octaves lower. ;)

350/400 fours with a jardine pipe on them at about 10,000rpm . TZ bikes are always very distinctive .
My first real street bike, a ‘77 400four. Put a 491 big bore kit with road and track cam and the sound emitting with a hand bent Yosh pipe was always music to my ears as it was the sound being played to the KZ900’s trying to catch me.

I agree the white wheels are a pain, I may have to clear coat them or get used to cleaning them weekly.... or NOT! :rofl1:

Out of curiosity, where is the sign in your avatar? That's not the 36 from Fortuna to Redding is it? I think I've seen that sign.
 
Before reading any reply, my top 2 are RC51 & VFR800, and the Ducati 800 twins are honorable mention. In all cases, not the sound while on the bike, but being nearby them as they go by. :thumb:

Yes, that is exactly where it is. Easily one of the best roads in the world. I pretty much ride it at least once each season. Anyone coming out to do the "California thing" should include it their plans. Typically I start in Redding in the morning / lunch in Fortuna / then back to Redding in the afternoon. That keeps the sun out of you eyes, both ways.
PS: I've been told that the authorities have put up a different sign this year. Seems it got too expensive to keep replacing the stolen ones.
 
Someone beat me to it, but the 1980s CBX 1000 had an amazing sound that nothing else could really replicate.

Whenever I do weekend rides and get stuck behind some dentist on his Harley I am reminded that although they sound nice in a parking lot, they sure are annoying to ride behind for any length of time!

Honestly, on a multi hour trip on the ST11 with factory exhaust, I'm usually really thankful that I don't have to listen to some obnoxious engine note.

Ha! thought so, we were on that road and were getting a bit behind as the day went on so looking at the map decided to take the 3 to connect up to the 299,....................WOW!! We definitely did NOT make up time but did we have a blast!! :thumb:

When I was much, much younger, I worked part time at a Honda dealer, and we occasionally used a CBX1000 as a shop hack to run errands on. I was too young and stupid to realise how lucky I was back then. We also had a Nifty 50 for the run to the post-office, and that was much scarier to ride with 45km/hr tank slappers...

Not my bike but a dead ringer. The deep exhaust note of the Conti's at any RPM was sheer heaven.

When I went to work at 0330hrs the neighbors weren't happy. It healthy torque at low RPM let me "sneak" off with very little warm up.

Least I could do.

Somewhere on this site I posted a link to a story about Soichiro Honda wanting an exhaust system for the CBX that sounded like an F-4 (Phantom II).

Honda engineers recorded F-4s and legend has it actually produced the desired pipes. But somebody decided it was just too loud for a street bike. Damn shame.
 
for me it's always gonna be the thumper; for me it's the xl600, without a starter, basically a lawnmower engine, [it's that feeling when the weed eater starts in the spring] torque range of -500 to +1500 percent of peak; kicking it over next weekend, as long as the leg still works
