Grips for ST1300

Larry:
I had a pair of the Grab On Classic Road grips on my '93 1100. They were replacement grips, not slip-overs. (I put them on a wooden dowel and turned down the outboard edge to match the grip weight diameter.) Pretty comfy, better than the Grip Puppies over my OEM grips. I have a set of the BMW grips that I'm going to try when I get around to installing the grip heaters.

I accidentally received a set of Hot Grips for 1" bars and installed them on my ST, big improvement due to their size, and very well made.
Also try NOJ 210 overgrips, which are neoprene, not foam that will break down. They attach with velcro and apparently are machine washable. http://www.discounthondaparts.com/e...20_keyword_noj.NOJ153_COMFORT__GRIP_WRAPS.htm
If you want another version of tapered (you'll have to cut the ends off these), try the Sunlines. I have them on my v65 Magna and they are awesome http://www.casporttouring.com/store...e=CST&Product_Code=440-01&Category_Code=grips
The other thing I have done now with the FJR is spiral wrap the grips with a foam backed rubber grip stip meant for baseball bats..... I'll do a better job next time, but I had to do something with the OEM Yammy heated grips. I'm going to try the NOJ's next.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on the installation of grip puppies? I successfully installed them on my vstrom , but ripped them trying to get them on the ST1300.

I found it easier to get these http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672212&bmUID=1215946668168 over my OEM heated grips with a lubricating gel (e.g. KY) than using soapy water. Just be aware that they will slip around until the gel drys out. Might also help to soak the grips again with water to get rid of some of the gel so you don't have the grip moving in the first rain storm. Turning up the heat on my grips speeds up the drying.

BTW, at over 70,000 km, my second set of CT grips are still fine (1st set replaced at 40,000) ... I'm impressed by how durable the foam is. They do soak up water in the rain but I don't find that much of a problem...I just give them a squeeze with a microfiber cloth before riding after the bike has sat out in rain.

I have an 08 with the tapered/ribbed grips and hate them. I am looking at some 04 grips for sale on Ebay and putting Grip Puppies on them. I will post againwhen I get it done and let y'all know. I have purchased several slip on's that all have been too short in length but. have sold them on Marketplace and haven't lost my A$$.

I know this thread is a bit old but my "new" 2005 St1300's grips are a bit hard and looking for some inexpensive foam slip on grips but don't know exactly the size of the bars....anyone know this?

Thanks in advance.

Rob

The bars are 7/8".

Will any (non Honda) brand heated grips work with Honda's controller ? I have factory heated grips but the grips themselves don't work (wire broken in side them)
