Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thx and good morning Brian!

Woke up to a lot of snow…..pfffft!
« I love all the seasons», Mrs Stu said.
Almost bought her a showel for valentines day.
Almost…

So today will be all about snow clearance.
And a pizza.

Reports are telling us Peter is much better today, and for that we are thankful.

Just around freezing, yes snowing, almost calm.

@ibike2havefun Keith, regarding sound from wind, the trees round the house are too small to make anything but noise. But uphill in the forest, there’s a beautiful swoosh to be heard.

Have a nice and well swept one!
Stu

A virus can do that to ya…

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee, Brian. Got any heart-shaped mugs to drink from?

In Rockville it's 23°F now but expected to hit 55 later on. Woo hoo! Th ground is still snow-covered, though, so no golf can be played just yet. That won't happen before March, I expect.

We've got 5:00 dinner reservations for a Valentine's evening out, but no other plans for the day.

I'll spend too much of it trying fruitless to solve a sudden computer problem. Quite abruptly yesterday morning something went flooey, leaving me unable to connect to quite a number of websites (including this one). I'd made no recent configuration changes nor done anything out of the ordinary. Rebooting the machine, and the router, didn't solve it. Nor have any of the more targeted possibilities suggested by Google.

At least my ancient tablet is unaffected so I'm not completely dead in the water, just badly crippled.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Good morning. Thanks for the coffee, Brian.

I’m back, sort of. I want to apologize for my absence, as several of you have inquired. It was a rough January, and I didn’t feel like talking about it. To start, I lost a couple of good friends in January. Reality set in when there was no one left to notify, as they had all passed on. Then I got some worrisome news about my grandsons health. Then the ice storm hit, that left me without power for 2 days. Arthritis has decided to affect my knees and fingers and now the rest of the story….Ive decided to quit riding.

So, there it is.

Almost forgot. 55 degrees and rain tonight.

John

John, you don't have to ride to be a friend here.... sorry about all the bad Jan news/memories...

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Brian.

It's cloudy and 19f/-7c in MA this morning, rising to 40f/4.4c and becoming partly cloudy as the day progresses.

@Nashcat, I'm glad to see you back here, and hope the rest of the year is better than January.
@STooRay, good to see Peter getting better. Careful with those evil thoughts re: your wife's shovel. Glad you made it back from the brink!

Yesterday, I made it to the gym and moved on to addressing various to-do items. I declaired it "Get S**t done day". I got online and notified my urolgist that I'd opt for the surgery we'd discussed. Ordered Euro from AAA, called the VA for a tune-up for my hearing aids, and my VA doc to see if I could do anything about MY arthritic knees, before our ski trip. I'm hoping for a Cortezone shot in the knee, but I *think* I might need to get by with some Tylenol in addition to the braces and Voltarin. I probably won't be on the slopes all the time, though. I still need to notify my credit union about the trip, so they don't turn my credit cards off, again.
Linner at our favorite Chinese/Japanese restaurant, where I tried to ease into sushi for the first time in years. Tasty, but the chopsticks weren't cooperating...

Today, we haven't got any plans. We were supposed to attend our neighbor's son's 3rd birthday party, but their kids are sick, so that's been postponed. I may try for a walk with their pup.
We've got enough leftovers in the 'Fridge, but that doesn't seem appropriate for Valentine's Day.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Good to see you post again, John!
Yes, this year really wasn’t a good one for me as well!
You just gotta haul up those britches & keep on getting on!
It’s not easy, don’t make big decisions too fast!
There a lot of folks here who care!
Regards
Brian

John, I'm sorry life has ganged up on you all of a sudden. Reach out if you need to vent or just want to ramble or unload.

@steve3b3 if you care for any reviews from first hand experience with urologists and surgery, just start a conversation with a DM. BTDT.

To pick up where I left off yesterday and the day before, here's the other story...

After my near panic last week at being unable to unlock Kaiser's trailer lid with him in it, I ordered and received the push-button locking release. The current older style that's on it now, can only be opened with a key.

The newer one is a standard spring release with a button that doesn't have to be locked and unlocked to close and open, obviously more convenient. But if I'm carrying tools, equipment, or anything else in the trailer that I want undisturbed, it can still be locked.

The challenge here is, the hole for the new lock must be expanded, and the Bushtec shell is made of fiberglass. Not something I wish to foul up, although I easily could. I do not wish to say, "although I LIKELY would."

There is a template to tape over the new hole, and those who have done it recommend using a Dremel, of which I have two.

That's the task for today, as it will be cloudy but dry with temps in the 60s later.

If that's not the story I had originally intended to tell, it will suffice. But I think it is the one.

As y'all know all too well, it's rare when I cannot find enough words to bore you with.

Right, then. Another coffee, and let's get this V-D started.

Good morning, all, and thanks for getting the pot a-gurgling, Brian!

We got a dusting of fluffy snow earlier this morning and the sky is still mostly cloudy, but the sun should be making an appearance pretty soon. We seem to be in a warm-up phase, which is very welcome but likely fleeting. The current temp is -5°C/23°F and that will eventually climb a few degrees to -2°C/28°F.

@Nashcat: Glad to see you back, John, though I'm sorry to hear you've had a rough time of late. 2025 and the start of 2026 sure have been rotten for a lot of folks; here's to better times ahead for all of us.
@steve3b3 : I hope the solution you and the docs decide on together leads to a successful outcome and a clean bill of health!

Everybody have a good one, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Happy Valentine's Day and Good Morning, Cloudy, Raining, windy and still dark. Mind hamsters got me up at 5:30 Sun rise at 7:21 , Sunny this afternoon according to the phone app. Oh yeah 40 F high 45 .

Welcome back Nashcat, hopefully life gets better for you soon, if riding doesn't bring you Happiness, for me that's the only reason to quit.
Well Y'all have a great Valentine's Day GIMG_7721.jpeg

Morning Brian & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 32F, up from 18F and heading for 53F. We have a slight breeze now, but later the winds will be out of the SW @ 10 to 12mph. The Weather guessers are telling us that we should get hit with a pretty good storm starting Monday, and lasting through Wednesday. We'll see... :well1:

@Nashcat , John sorry to hear about the rough January. We, here did miss you, and we're very glad to see you back!
@STooRay , Stu, Peter is not looking too happy, hope he's feeling better, soon.
@steve3b3 , Steve, sorry you're having to go through that issue!

My day was interrupted with a Ring Camera, that we ordered, coming in and I went ahead and got it set up and running. I mounted in the porch area, so we have a better view of the front door. At least with the ring, you can get to the picture pretty fast, whereas the Wyse takes too long. Why we decided to just replace the ring doorbell, as well.

I took Chris to her favorite restaurant for a late lunch, early dinner and avoided the Valentines evening rush! And since we avoid such places on Weekends and holidays, makes for a nicer time! :)

Today, I don't know, we'll see. I *might* get out to the garage today to get it straightened up, *maybe*.

We'll have some breakfast once Chris is up and awake. Just because she's up, doesn't mean she's awake! ;) Pepsi(s) will be on the menu today at some point.

Anyone :dr13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Wow. What a long, strange, (irritating) trip it's been but, for the moment at least, I seem to have overcome the network malady that began abruptly yesterday morning.

Regular readers of this space may recall that I mentioned earlier that for whatever reason I suddenly found myself unable to connect to many, but not every, website. I tried all the usual things, more than once:
  • unplug and restart the router, router extender, computer.
  • Clear the DNS cache.
  • Clear the browser cache.
  • Disable third-party security software.
    • Run the self-repair of said software.
    • Uninstall and reinstall said software.
  • Run the various Windows network configuration tools.
    • Reset DNS addresses for both IPv4 and IPv6 to Automatic (the default)
    • Stop and restart the DHCP service and its dependent services.
  • Run the (nearly useless) Windows network troubleshooter.

Nothing helped, and the mystery of why the outage was (a) widespread but not universal among sites I tried to visit, (b) apparently localized to my machine, and (c) what were the proximal and root causes of the issue remained unresolved.

I was on the verge of actually completely burning my machine to the ground and resetting it to the out-of-the-box configuration, but before taking such a dramatic step I decided to have one more go at the simplest of things. Taking a closer look at the Ethernet adapter status on my system, I noticed that although the IPv6 portion connected to the interweb, IPv4 did not. Hmmmmmmmmm... another Google search led me back to the beginning: try resetting the router and extender by unplugging them, letting them sit unpowered for a moment, and replugging them.

Like Yosemite Sam in one or another of the Bugs Bunny / Looney Tunes I unplugged the upstairs network extender (supplied by Verizon, with their FiOS router), trudged down the stairs to unplug the main router and plug it back in after a minute or two of being offline, stomped back up the stairs to return to the home office and reconnect the extender.

Took a deep breath, restarted the computer one more time. After another moment of waiting for the startup process to finish and for all the moving parts to settle down, I checked the Ethernet adapter status once again: it appeared to have connected for both IPv4 and IPv6 DNS resolutions. YAY! Tried to connect to this site, and succeeded! YAY again!

I still have no clue as to (a) what caused the issue to begin with, and (b) why my first re-cycling of the router didn't take care of it. (Side note: this is the second time in a few days I've had the router glitch. If it happens again anytime soon I'm going to have to have a serious chat with Verizon, I think, about a replacement. I'll also put a small UPS between the wall outlet and the router, as a buffer against momentary power dropouts, which could have been at the bottom of it all.)

Happy to be back to normal operation, but mentally exhausted by the process of getting there.

Caffeine is forever... :coffee:
or something like that... ;)

Good evening... 🌃

No "romance" here (... our morning sports are non of your business... 😜)...
After a quick breakfast ☕ we rushed to ze GF's workplace as she'd forgotten her phone there... butterbrain... 😁
refueled the trusty Toyota and spent the rest of day in the shed, tinkering on her NT700VA...

That thermostat gasket was definitely overdue: cracks, hardened, crumbled into pieces upon removal... good I noted that in time...
Managed completing some more on the front end, adjusters, garnish plate, windscreen...
Mounted the left fairing (right still missing a replacement t/signal) and the belly pan...

hope yer all had a great day!
